Don’t miss a chance to join over 40,000 developers from 160+ countries who take part in the Developer Economics surveys every year to tell the world where software development is going next.

This survey is for anyone writing code and getting their hands on software development in Mobile, Desktop, IoT, AR/VR, Machine Learning & Data Science, Web, Backend and Games. It doesn’t matter if you’re a hobbyist, a startupper or an enterprise dev - the survey is open for all real developers out there!

The survey is designed to dive into real-life developer issues, from coding skills and favourite tools to satisfaction with learning resources and communities.

Expect questions like:

Which are your favourite tools and platforms?

What’s going up and what’s going down in the software industry?

Are you working on the projects you would like to work on?

Where do you think development time should be invested?

There are also deep-dive questions based on your area of expertise, like Machine Learning, IoT, web development and more where you can really show you’re a pro and answer more complex questions about your favourite frameworks and vendors.

The survey is designed to reveal your sci-fi profile, so the more you engage, the closer you get to finding out your place in the galaxy far far away. There’s also prizes. This time, devs who take part and complete the survey can win stuff like iPhone X, Samsung S9 Plus, HTC Vive Pro, GitHub Developer Plan, Amazon vouchers and other useful things to help you test your work or just play around.

Last but not least, everyone who takes the survey will get insights with key findings from the survey as well as a free report with the highlights and up-and-coming trends.

If you have a few minutes to spare and want to have a quality time, then this survey is for perfect for you!

Do you want to learn more about developer technologies in a fun, challenging and hands-on format with access to Microsoft engineering experts? If so, read on.....

Microsoft OpenHack is a new format of event specifically designed for developers who want to learn new skills to apply to real world challenges in their workplace. Whether you work as a developer in a enterprise organisation, a partner organisation, at a start-up or are just getting started as a student, Microsoft OpenHack allows you to learn hands-on and side by side with experts to kick start you in the right direction with your next technology project.

Typically run over multiple days, Microsoft Openhack events are based on one overall technology. Examples could be Containers, Machine Learning/Computer Vision, Data/IOT or Dev Ops. You will be joined by up to 150 like-minded techhies, but will work in groups of 4 or 5 developers. You will be presented with a series of code challenges that are solved during the hack (just like an escape room – here’s what you are trying to do, here are some clues, figure it out!). Throughout the challenges, Microsoft experts are by your side, ensuring you can make progress if you get stuck. Not only are Open Hack events a great opportunity to learn cool new things and meet some great people, you are also likely to have fun from start to finish.

Whether you work for a large enterprise wrestling with the real-world task of migrating existing applications to the cloud, or a start-up looking ahead to enterprise scale, containerisation and cluster technologies are critical skills for the innovative developer.

Microsoft OpenHack brings together groups of diverse developers to learn how to implement a given scenario on containerisation through 3 days of immersive, structured, hands-on, challenge based hacking where you will team up with community peers and learn how to implement container solutions and moving them to the cloud.

Hosted in Sydney from 18 - 20 June, during #OpenHack you will:

Choose your desired tooling and technology based on Kubernetes or Azure Service Fabric.

Hack on robust challenges structured to leave you with skills and expertise needed to deploy containers and clusters in your place of work.

Network with fellow community members and other professional developers from start-ups to large enterprises, as well Microsoft Engineering leaders and experts

Get answers to your technology and workplace project questions from Microsoft and community experts.

In addition to the challenge based learning paths, a limited number of 1-hour code-with slots will be made available on a first come, first served basis to work side by side with Microsoft experts on your own workplace projects.

OpenHack is free for registered attendees! Food, drinks, prizes and fun will be provided. If travelling, attendees are responsible for their own travel expenses and evening meals.

To be successful and maximise value from the event, participants should have a basic understanding of the following concepts and technologies. You are not required to be an expert or authority, but a familiarity with each will be advantageous:

Docker Containers

Cloud hosted services

REST Services

DevOps

IP Networking & Routing
