At 13, Johnny Simmons is not your average teenager! He is the lead developer of SimzzDev and has successfully launched almost 20 apps for Windows Phone. Now that’s an amazing feat!

On Friday, we had a Windows Phone Unleashed event (Read Windows Phone Hackathon!) in Bellevue, WA. This event was from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM and we had close to a hundred people participate. Like all other Windows Phone unleashed events, we had 3 winners and the first prize was awarded to Johnny Simmons for his Signature app.

Fore more apps by SimzzDev go to: https://www.appwp.com/developer/501-simzzdev

My Colleague Bruce Kyle did a quick interview with Johnny. To begin with, the interface is more streamlined, the connection is much better, the client is much lighter. All good reasons to upgrade to Microsoft Lync.

Enterprise communication has been dormant for a while now and Microsoft brings this new paradigm of Software powered communication and collaboration experiences that drastically reduce both CapEx and OpEx while improving collaboration experience for the end user.

To help developers build custom communication experiences, Microsoft announced the Lync Server 2010 Developer Training Kit this is now available for download on MSDN Downloads.

Another good reference on this topic is, Chris Mayo’s blog. It provides more details of what is in the Developer Kit at his posting at Lync Server 2010 Developer Training Kit Available Now.

This training kit includes the following modules:

Getting Started with Microsoft Lync Server 2010 and Exchange Server 2010 Development

Integrating Microsoft Lync 2010 Features with the Lync Controls

Building Contextual Conversations with the Microsoft Lync 2010 Managed API

Building Communications Clients with the Lync 2010 Managed API

Web Services Managed API 1.0

Getting Started with Unified Communications Managed API 3.0

Building Communications Workflows with UCMA 3.0 Workflow SDK

Building Advanced Communications Solutions with UCMA 3.0

Lync Server 2010 and Exchange Server 2010: Architecture and Deployment

Each module provides a presentation on the topic and hands on labs.

It’s no secret that Windows Phone 7 developers love the support that they get from Windows Azure! In making this bond stronger, Windows Azure announced a toolkit for Windows Phone 7 specifically! This is a huge milestone and will be a crucial piece in making the App story sweeter for developers.

Download it from here: Windows Azure Toolkit for Windows Phone 7.

The main goal of this toolkit is to make it easier for developers to build phone applications that leverage cloud services in Windows Azure! Once you have downloaded the toolkit, you can use the phone and compute emulators to get a new WP7 app running.

The toolkit provides you with:

Binaries for your Windows Phone 7 applications

Project templates to optimize new phone application creation

Sample applications in both C# and VB.NET (VB Dev’s rejoice!)

A dependency checker that checks the prerequisites required by the toolkit

Setup and configuration documentation, toolkit content review, a getting started walkthrough, and troubleshooting tips

Before you get started, be sure to read Wade Wegner's blog post, "Windows Azure Toolkit for Windows Phone 7" and also take a peek at Getting Started with the Toolkit.

(Image: Courtesy Steve Marx)

These are exciting times for developers. It was great collaboration between UX, PM, Platform Evangelists and partners. While you are at it, check this Native Extension for Silverlight (NESL) which makes all this much easier by exposing new Windows 7 features such as Sensors and Location in Silverlight, and the Silverlight OOB Installer work which makes it easy to install these like native apps.

-Mithun Dhar

Technorati Tags: flickr, windows phone 7,wp7 flickr, windows slate flickr

So I am assuming you read the 'Dataquest Insight: Application Stores; The Revenue Opportunity Beyond the Hype' Gartners new report on App/Mkt place. To summarize, this report says by the end of 2011 the App Marketplace will generate revenues north of $15 Billion USD. It also goes on to speak about how the tipping point occurred in 2010 with Android and Apple market places taking the lead, And it goes as far as saying that by 2014 – the market place will generate revenues up to $58 Billion dollars. That’s a 10x increase from 2010. Impressive, certainly! Over-optimistic and callous, a little bit of both – yes!

So developers, there are 58 billon reasons for you to develop the next greatest app! From that perspective my team has built this awesome content to help you get started. As always, your feedback would help us deliver quality content in the future. Please feel free to send the information to me via my blog.
