After a long experience with new developer students, I have seen some are thirsty for very basic codes to startup their first apps. Some spend hours on search engines to find the codes they need from open source websites, and from professional point of view, being familiar with search engines is a great talent to have, while other fresh students are still not familiar and may give up from first time.

So cheers this is a safe place to start, this cheat sheet is full of very basic and useful C# windows 8 codes that will help you run your first apps, and you will always stay in need for it whatever professional you are. Of course I may miss some codes you may be waiting for, please feel free to tell me about in order to add them. So before beginning, I recommend everyone to save this cheat sheet on their desktop, in a notepad.txt file, and continue on adding some useful codes to it for future daily use, so that you save time and be more productive.

A Microsoft Student Partner “MSP” should do several activities or duties during the MSP program. But do these duties make him an ideal MSP?

The answer is “NO”. There are other activities that should be done to make the MSP ideal and shiny.

1- Quality not Quantity: MSP should develop several apps each year. But the secret is developing quality applications, because this will attract other MSPs, Microsoft leads, and customers. Developing silly applications will ruin your reputation in the app store, because people will
get a negative feedback about your current and future applications that they have never tried; also a negative feedback about you as a developer. Moreover, when developing quality apps, your gain more experience and you will be a mentor or advisor for a lot of new and old MSPs. This will mpress the leads and they may assign you as an MSP lead.

2- Winning Competitions: Another duty is to participate in Microsoft competitions such as Dev Camp, Imagine cup...etc. A normal MSP participates in the competitions just because it’s a must, but the ideal MSP is the one who participate and work hard to win the competitions.

3- Benefit from online training sessions: A lot of online training sessions are organized and presented by technical evangelists such as WP7 Unity Gaming sessions, WP development sessions, Windows Store development sessions, and Windows Azure sessions…etc. The purpose behind
these sessions is to teach you development skills and new features, so never attend the training session and open Facebook or watch TV. You should concentrate and follow up with the evangelist to make sure you understood everything discussed.

4- Spread you knowledge: The main goal of having Microsoft meetings and events is to highlight about specific features like a program “Visual Studio” or operating system “windows 8.1“ or search engine “Bing”. So make sure you get an idea about everything presented and discussed
in the event in order to present it in front of your family members, friends, and colleagues. Remember that you are a Microsoft ambassador, so you are responsible about everything related to Microsoft and you should be up to date in all your information. Try to present your knowledge through a lot of events in your university; this will help spread Microsoft’s features and news in a correct and trusted way.

5- Be Challenger: Challenge yourself and do your best to win the challenges. Challenge others to motivate them to work better and break the routine.

6- Be honest and helpful: Never lie to anyone especially the Microsoft leads. Never pretend of having a wide experience in coding. Let your acts define and represent you to the Microsoft leads and not you mouth. Also, helping others and being a collaborative person is a great characteristic in the Ideal MSP. Never keep something that my help others for yourself, but share it with others to help them benefit from it as you did.

7- Build your future: Build your future through the MSP program. This program is your first step towards your future, it’s so important for you to take it seriously because you might end up working in Microsoft. The MSP program teaches you life experience more than codes and syntax; it also helps you deal with different situations that you might face in
the future. This program extends your dreams’ limits and encourages you to achieve your goals.

There are many tips that help you shine as an MSP, but I guess the topics above are the most important. In my opinion, shining in the MSP program is an award, a trophy, for every MSP and for his future, so don’t ever underestimate this program and try always to be the best.

Thank you.

For Developers who need to build an astonishing design for their apps, but don't have an idea about professional Graphic Design tools, and for the artist Graphic Designers who don't have an idea on how to implement their arts to visual studio or MS Blend, I wrote this straight to point tutorial.

My experience with graphic design lasted for more than 5 years, I have trained myself on Adobe software, got internship at printing companies and now having a great chemistry combination between developing and designing apps. Hope you all get benefit of this experience and share it!

Very Basics How to make the best design for your application, using Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and MS Blend.

All Microsoft's Modern design guidelines for Windows 8 and Windows Phone can be found on design.windows.com and dev.windowsphone.com/en-us/design

Start a new windows phone or windows 8 project on visual studio, in the solution explorer create a new folder and name it "images" or any name to keep your project neat, and all your design elements will be added in this folder.

Visual Studio supports Design elements/images of *.JPEG, *.PNG, *GIF extensions. I usually use *.JPEG for backgrounds, which provides compressible images with better quality. And *.png for elements and icons that can be circle or any shape where it's required to have a transparent
background. *.GIF extensions usually used in web applications, where the element can be animated.

Going back now to graphic design tools, if you are seeking for vector graphics editor "Cartoonish, hand drawn objects" Adobe Illustrator is the right tool for you. Using AI you could either draw whatever vector you want to add to your app, from buttons, shapes, notification bar, house, your character… or you can get/buy ready samples from internet and use or edit them to best fits what is in your mind.

Trick: go to www.bing.com, search for web buttons vector ai, choose the best button that fits your app and download it as illustrator file *.ai

Trick of search engine: ("name of object you need" + vector ai)

Other Graphics sources: http://www.freshwap.me/graphics/

Sample to download: http://all-free-download.com/free-vector/vector-web-design/sophisticated_web_page_design_elements_vector_161881.html

After your design is ready, if you are familiar with Adobe illustrator, save the vectors as *.png or *.jpg, and you are ready to take the design to next level at visual studio. Check how: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/illustrator/cs/using/WSB774257A-0C4E-4b60-87CD-1D0DA7B7D3C3a.html

Enough from Adobe illustrator, and going to Adobe Photoshop, a very simple software that helps you enhance or edit your photos. Using Photoshop, you can resize, cut and trim your artwork to fit your needs and the dimensions of windows phone/8 layout. If you are familiar with multi-tasking,
Adobe Photoshop can be a complimentary tool for Illustrator! You can simple create a new file on Photoshop with correct dimensions of platform, and drag vectors from illustrator and drop them on Photoshop, save them and implement in VS.

Dimensions: Windows phone 7 – 7.5 devices: 480 X 800 Pixels.

         Windows Phone 8 and above: 768 X 1280 Pixels.

Windows 8: Depends on screen device you target, usually: 1366 X 768 Pixels.

Now after all your artwork is done, drag and drop all the elements to the Images folder in the Visual Studio we created before. And now you can use your artwork in your project.

Using Visual Studio, from toolbox pick up "Image" tool and implement it to space on screen of windows phone/8 platform. In this space we are using XAML which is responsible for the GUI of the application. You could either pick up objects from the list of tools or drag them to work space, or
write their XAML code, in our case Image: <Image Height="100" Width="100"/>

After adding Image to Interface, on your right side under Properties window, choose Common – Source – Choose Your Image.

That's basically all beginners from designers and developers need to start their well designed project, and astonish their customers. If anyone needs support/troubleshoot using these tools please share it in the comments below so all people get benefit from. Good luck!

Microsoft Student Partner program gave me a really great spot light to shine. I do remember one day when I was about to finish my school my close friends asked me what I want to be in the future.I just told them that I want to be part of a big software company like Microsoft someday.

They just laughed and said:” come on it is really hard even to get inside it “. I just said: “who knows! “

In 2012 I got accepted in MSP Program and felt the glory and I remembered that dreams might become real one day. My dreams don't end here, they have just started.

I have learnt a lot as an MSP and I would like to express some quotes that had a place inside my brain.

“Never lose belief about your ability, passion and dreams because there is always a time to wake up and shine”.

”Responsibility never talk about itself you have to realize it ”

”Chances can be exploited by the smart effort strategy “

“Time is always running. Be beside it as much as you can, until you are used to run like time”

“ Love is able to create talents, love yourself”

“Respect is the best ticket to get your social goals”

“Teamwork will show you the right evaluation for yourself inside best society interaction kind you can have, so always look for a team to work with “

The Microsoft Student Program is a great way for students to get involved in the world of...

The Microsoft Student Program is a great way for students to get involved in the world of technology. If you are the kind of person that is asking himself “why should I join the program?” or “what are the benefits of this program?” and you’re still searching for answers you came to the right place! I’m going to give you 9 reasons to join the Microsoft Student Partner program.

1- Discover and try latest Microsoft technologies

Yes! You’ll be one of the first to try Microsoft products before even getting released which is quite amazing. You’ll learn all the special feature and specs of the next Microsoft technologies. Don’t forget that the more you know about stuff around you, the more innovative you get.

2- Learn new coding languages

Mainly when you become a Microsoft Student Partner you’ll learn how to develop Windows Phone and Windows 8 application using C#, XNA and many more. This is a plus on your CV. If you ever apply to any software company the first thing they will look at is the coding languages you know. This is a kind of proof on how much effort you put on your knowledge.

3- Develop applications for Windows Phone and Windows 8

So now that you’ve learned C#, you’re able to develop Windows Phone and Windows 8 applications. I’m sure you’re wondering “Why should I develop apps for Windows Phone and not for Android or iOS?” Well think about it like this: There are a lot of apps on iOS and Android. So the competition will be harder if you release an app there. On the other side, the Microsoft Marketplace is new so there will be less competition. For instance, there are many popular games that can’t be found on Windows Phone like “Clash of Clans” or “Candy Crush”. So why not create something similar to them on the marketplace? You can make a lot of money from it and it’s really nice to say on your CV that your app is one of the top apps on the marketplace.

4- Meet international Microsoft employees and Student Partners

When I first joined the program, I thought that I will be meeting Bill Gates personally. Well I’m sorry to disappoint you but you’re not getting near him. However, you’ll meet people that are important at Microsoft such as the DPE Lead, Country Manager, Technical Evangelists, MEA Technical Audience Marketing Director at Microsoft and many more… It’s really nice of getting a feedback from professional people as this will give you an idea of how people work at Microsoft and how good it is from the inside. Also you’ll meet other student partners around the world.

5- Benefit from an internship at Microsoft or one of its partners

If you have a dream of working for Microsoft well it’s a chance to prove yourself! The Microsoft Student Partner program gives the opportunity for students to work at Microsoft or one of its partners. This is very beneficial in the future since Microsoft is sending you to its partners. It’s a sort of recommendation you’re getting that you have what it takes to develop and help in building applications on the store.

6- Represent Microsoft at your university

Now this is the important part of being a Microsoft Student Partner. The moment you join the program you’ll become an ambassador for Microsoft at your university. What does an ambassador do? Well he mainly represents Microsoft, introduce students to the new technologies and finally hold seminars and development sessions. So this shows that you have leadership experience and could help you if you’re applying for any management position.

7- Give Seminars and improve your presentation skills

One of the skills you’ll get when you join the program is enhancing your presentation skills. As mentioned before you’re becoming an ambassador. Take it that way: A real ambassador should know the language of his country (Microsoft) and the language of the country he lives in (University). So if you ever wanted to improve your presentation and speaking skills the program will help you. You’ll be giving presentations and seminars at your university. So if one of your biggest fears is of standing in front of an audience, now is the chance to overcome it. Don’t forget during your career you are going to give presentations and deliver your ideas in a clear and straight manner.

8- Get Microsoft products for free

The moment you join the program you’ll be evaluated on your performance during the year. If you dedicate yourself to the program you’ll receive some valuable prize such as MSDN. For those who don’t know, MSDN provides you with all Microsoft products available on the market along with 5 product keys for each. You may also get a Windows Phone 8 device and many more prizes…

9- Have it on your CV

The moment you graduate from university you’ll start applying for jobs. Fine, but what differentiate 2 students having the same GPA with an empty CV? Putting in your CV that you were in the Microsoft Student Partner program will show the company you’re applying to that you’re dedicated, passionate, ambitious and willing to learn new things. So this is a huge plus on your CV!

Finally, I’m sure you are going to enjoy the program if you ever get enrolled in it. You’ll be part of an amazing family that will help you learn, present, build your confidence and improve your CV.

Microsoft launched its most Secure, Fast, Flexible and Fluid Windows OS ever! Best Tablets, hybrids, Laptops, and all-in-ones are today all sharing the same user experience, and covered under the sky of one cloud. Windows 8/8.1 was a completely new product, instead of simply the kind of rolling OS update we have all became used to from Windows and Mac OS. Torn between tablet future and PC past with the desktop that you know and love, improved Windows 8/8.1 have changed how we feel about Microsoft’s current operating system. The plan of Windows 8 was serving too many masters, from 27-inch all-in-one PCs, 8-inch flip-and-fold hybrids, midsize non-touch laptops, and simply everything in between.

Well, Windows 8.1 the OS you are all experiencing, showcased on the Asus Transformer Book T100, with 11 hours battery, Intel Atom Z3740 quad-core processor the perfect for multitasking, USB 3.0 support, and Microsoft Office Home 2013, you can experience more than a full amazing working day!

The chemistry combination of the T100 with Microsoft’s Windows 8.1, having a beautiful 10.1-inch IPS HD display, to bring all your photos, videos, and Xbox games to life. And as we saw with the Surface before, the T100 tablet comes with a keyboard dock to be designed from the get-go to a fully functional Laptop, with full windows 8.1 gesture support.

Microsoft had just added many useful tweaks and fixes in the new windows 8.1. Including the improved app store, ability to boot directly to the desktop, and of course the new smart search. The improved Search engine is the most feature an OS can have. The search everything new version can search through settings, apps, cloud files (SkyDrive), and online; giving more precise results than previous OS. For Desktop PC enthusiasts, Microsoft added a minor tweak which is the ability to boot directly to the old style Windows desktop on startup, without surfing through the new Modern Start.

Honestly Microsoft is widening the horizon for you in front of new ways to work and play with windows 8.1, in a way that you can start faster, type smoothly, search everywhere, and do more at once, in one place having all your files safe and secure with one experience on all your devices.

Thanks to Moalla Ilani for the very first post of our blog..

Since November 2011, and Nokia Microsoft partnership are astonishing the world with their amazing Lumia devices, which till now I am not finding a word that can best fit the ground/wall breaking device!

And today, Nokia-Windows Phone, in its dominant trends of the smartphone industry, had the race to operate a Lumia device with quad-code chipsets, 1080p HD resolution, and gigantic screen that was just short of what Android users enjoyed. Well! it’s the Nokia Lumia 1520 the world’s smartphone splendor, that Nokia meets those demands and more.

It has the quad-core processor, big display, HD resolution to go along with a strong camera. Nokia finally built a windows phone phablet that checks off the core features that people have requested. Lumia 1520 is the biggest Lumia, literally and figuratively, to date.

History has shown that smartphone buyers believe bigger is better, well in this case the saying is in its place! Lumia 1520 has (6.4 x 3.36 inch, 0.33 inch thin), with slope edges making it more comfortable for handling.

Before moving on, I would like to double back to one particular hardware feature that took my attention, it’s the multiple microphones located above the camera on the back of the device. That Nokia included for directional stereo recordings, for a better job of capturing sound coming from objects in front of your cam.

Going back to the front, Lumia 1520 fitted with Gorilla Glass 2, Corning’s scratch resistant glass, and featured beautiful Clear Black screen with more pixels, of 6-inch IPS LCD screen of resolution 1920x1080 of pixel density 368 pixel/inch. With vibrant LCD colors and brighter whites than the AMOLED panel, and still having great display in direct sunlight. And we can’t forget the 1520’s capacitive touchscreen is also sensitive enough that you can use it with gloves on, as we saw in latest Lumias.

The device having a 3.5 mm headphone jack at the top, and micro USB port at the button. NANO SIM card next to a micro SD slot of 64 GB (16GB internal Storage)! At the back a strong volume level speaker that maintains clear audio quality.

Going back for performance, with a quad-core 2.2GHZ Snapdragon 800 processor and 2GB RAM! That’s really above what we expected for a windows phone 8 that was never slow except while first load of some apps, the lag that has been cut lately. Feeling faster than other windows handsets, people should get excited with prospect of HD games that will elevate the gaming experience on Windows Mobile.

From performance to battery life, I was surfing through GSM Arena website and I was confused by the results the battery life test gave! Making Lumia 1520’s 3,400mAH admirable battery, top listed. I will be content with the score of 28 hours 34 minutes call time!

And at last I will never forget to mention the 20-megapixel Nokia’s pure view technology back camera, make your life more interactive, especially with Nokia’s latest pro, smart cam and storyteller apps! The lens uses aperture of f/2.4, with sensor size of 1/2.5 inch, with optical image stabilization and a focal length of 25 mm, and ISO of 4000.
