I recently faced an issue on my Public facing SharePoint 2010 website wherein due to an advertisement campaign , the number of click requests /page access requests increased dramatically and which led to blocking in SharePoint database on sql server and tempdb reaching its capacity. That slow down the response from database server and slowed down the page response of SharePoint to an extent that at times the page stopped loading and gave error.

This was happening because each page access request or the image/ video access request on SharePoint page was going to database for response .

There was no error message in IIS logs except the information on requested pages which were huge.

In SharePoint logs the only high priority event was the generic sql query for accessing the list was very slow in response but it was not referring to any particular list .

As a resolution we enabled the caching of the pages . The blob cache( in web.config) and IIS caching for the website were already enabled . The only thing which was missing was output caching was disabled in sitecollection root site settings .

I enabled the output caching for the site collection with default profile of anonymous users for internet facing sites and checked the option for subsites to inherit the same profile.

This worked as charm .In couple of minutes ,all the site pages started responding at original /faster speed .

For Static content sites , output caching is must for performance of pages .

Project Online is a new entry to Office 365 few months ago and is very effective as it provides the complete set of functionalities of Project server 2013 without putting any effort / money to buy
infrastructure for servers, software i.e. if you have to setup a Project server 2013 on your premises. you require Windows Server 2012 / 2008 R2 SP1 , SQL server 2012 / 2008 R2 SP1 , SharePoint Server 2013
Enterprise edition and for supporting all these you need a good supportive hardware with minimum 24/ 32 GB RAM , 80 GB minimum hard disk but for production you definitely require 160 GB at least and then an
administrator who knows SQL , SharePoint and project server beside basic networking , backup restore and Windows AD , then electricity cost / maintenance and operational cost to keep the server online / available all the time
and lots of maintenance botherations/ tensions / performance monitoring etc.. Etc. All these are good / manageable for a large enterprise with more than 500 or 10000 users but for most of the mid segment and small organizations.
Project Online is the best solution which relieves you from any of the above mentioned costs and efforts and just you need is a good/stable internet connection which is commonly available now a days.

Cleared the PMI PMP exam last week with Good standing. It was an awesome experience.

Besides your experience which helps you grasp and understand the content well , you must prepare dedicatedly for 100-120 Hours i.e. it can be spread over 3 to 6 weeks and last 2/3 days doing the MOCK tests.

PMBOK is good for reference on regular basis .You can follow one more book for compete study and understanding . I Followed Rita's Exam preparation guide , and read most of the chapters twice . Also went through nearly all the Fast Track questions,

Besides that revised the PMStudy Tips and Tricks and completed the MOCK Test. MOCK Test is very important to make a habit to sit for 4 hours and get your 200 questions completed in 4 hours . You have to keep track of the time dividing every hour i.e. you must be competing more than 50 questions in every hour to complete your exam. loosing focus in any hour will lead you to struggle at the end .

Also do understand all the questions i.e. why 3 of the answers are wrong and why the one is correct. This really help you in answering the similar type of questions in exam. You may complete 10000 questions but , all the questions in exam will be new . However the pattern is mostly same i.e. if you have analyzed the questions even if you have worked on only 700 to 1000 questions but from all knowledge areas and have understood them well , you can clear those questions in exam easily.

Summary : If you are well prepared ( read the book twice , gone through questions in all Knowledge areas and Done couple of MOCK tests ) , then you actually feel that you will clear the exam ( i.e. the questions become easy for you answer correctly). While giving exam , you feel that you are answering the questions correctly. And exam is easy to pass for those who are prepared.

Similar Arch. as 2010
New platforms and capabilities:
Shredded storage : Minimize actuila file...

Similar Arch. as 2010

New platforms and capabilities:

Shredded storage : Minimize actuila file size. Send only those changes which users are making and not complete doument to the server

SQL 2012 as DB server

App fabric caching -store informatio in farm level cache over all servers

request mgmt : to redirect request to sharepoint server to diiferent servers for load sharing or specifc servers with specific workloads

GUI modification options are enhanced and made easy :

Information sharing made easy and quick : more easily share sites ..

SA Arachitecture has reamined same and we take advanatage of alreday solid architecture

added few new SAs

Once change is that Office webappas is nota SA now its a separate product and installed on separate server irrespective of sharepoint i.e. can be used by Documents in Exchange 15 , filesystem or Lync 15. Sharepoint is not a required component for office web apps.

Webanalytics is also now noa SA bu has been made part of serach itself and can now better understand teh users queries made ofr ceratin keywords and of rspecific criteria , thsu analytics become more precise.

Lots of improvement on ECM perspective

Now we can ahve site l;evel retention policies to track whch site are acreated , how they are cleaned and track when they are deleted and what workflows are executed once they are delted etc and also the retention policies can be imposed on mailboxes axssociated with site. Thus can arcahive the site at a arcahival location.

Also discivery cases and hold s acan be crarted not only for site but for anything at obne single place.

We can export information from files sytem, , exchange or even sharepoint for legal holds or otherwise for information purpose.

Exchange 15 and shjarepoint 15 are tighly integrated .

Tere are some tjing called theme folders and which stores documents opr emails and can be used either with sharepoint or owa or outlook to browse this info.

On WCM perspective , lots of improvements i.e. you can use any tool for workflow or designining site which can understand HTML . as sharepoint pages uses HTML rendering approach . designer need not underatnd Sharepoint to modify theier site , as its supports hTML rendering and these designers can use html templates to manipulate these site .they can alos iuse any HTMl i.e HTML 5 . Anoter advantage is taht sharepoint pages for rendering webparts are not yusing table tags but using >Div> s for renndering web parts which make it easy for HTMl rendering.

variation shandling : support for content translation. Individual label owners can see changes on master site and message translation can take plae in sharepoint . Translation happens in cloud based servive=ce nd integrated into sharoiint sites

=================

wait fo more info in next post
