Let’s go over this page to better understand what these settings control.

Let users share SharePoint content with external users
This controls how a user can share with external users

Only existing external users -can share only to external users that exist in your tenant
New and existing external users (sign-in required) – can share with new external users or external users that already exist in your tenant can access
Anyone, including anonymous users -can share with anyone and anyone that the link has access

Let users share OneDrive content with external users
This controls how a user can share with external users and must be at least as restrictive as your SharePoint sharing settings
Options:

Only existing external users -can share only to external users that exist in your tenant
New and existing external users (sign-in required) – can share with new external users or external users that already exist in your tenant can access
Anyone, including anonymous users -can share with anyone and anyone that the link has access

Default Sharing Links
These settings control what the default setting will be when a user shares a file/folder

Direct -Only people who have been given permission directly or via sharing invitation
Internal-Anyone in your tenant that has access to the URL can access
Anonymous access-Anyone internal or external that has the link can access
These settings directly affect the default setting that appears when a user Shares a file/folder

Figure 1: Indicates Direct is the Default Sharing Link Setting

Administrator controls for Anonymous Links

Administrators can control how long an anonymous sharing link is valid for
If the user tries to change this setting when sharing they will see the message
Expiration can’t extend past X days because of admin policy

Administrators can also force the permissions on a file/folder level to be view only
Once this is set the user will see this option greyed out when sharing

Limit external sharing by domain
Administrators can control who users share with on a domain level as well.

What can external users do
External users must accept sharing invitations using the same account that the invitations were sent to
With this setting enabled the user must accept the meeting invite with the exact email address that received the email

When enabled and the user tries to accept the invitation with a different account than the account that received the invitation, they will receive this message

Let external users share items they don’t own

This setting allows external users that have access to choose to Share the item with other external users
This setting is checked by default
When this setting is disabled and an external user that has access attempts to Share the item they will receive this message

ISSUE:

When saving an Excel file multiple times, user receives message "The file may have been changed by another user since you last saved it. In that case, what do you want to do? Save a Copy | Overwrite the changes".

Repro Steps:

- Sync a OneDrive library with the local OneDrive client
- Open any Excel file in Excel 2016
- Make any change and save (file saves successfully)
- Make another change to the same file and save

Workaround:

- Right click OneDrive in system tray
- Select Settings

- Click the Office tab

- Uncheck “Use Office 2016 to sync files that I open”

Note: If you turn off the Use Office 2016 to sync files that I have open setting, any changes that you and other people make to Office files will no longer merge together automatically. You will also no longer be able to share a document directly from the Office apps.

*Microsoft's Product Team is currently scheduled to have a fix by the end of October 2017.

Issue:

Groups and sites listed in Outlook are different than what appears in OneDrive for Business (new/modern experience). In Outlook all the Office 365 groups are shown that the user is a member of, however, in OneDrive for Business modern view it will only show a few.

* If you switch to the classic OneDrive experience then all the Office 365 groups are shown.

Resolution:

To have the group sites appear in the OneDrive list, navigate to the mail icon and select a link under Groups to go to the group site.

Once there, select More and choose Site:

Then click on the Star “Not following” (highlighted below):

This will add the group to the sites that appear in the OneDrive modern view.

*This behavior is by design for the Modern experience in OneDrive for Business.

ISSUE:

After installing Windows 10 MDT image, OneDrive starts when logged in as a local Administrator, however, as a non-admin user, OneDrive will not launch.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

- Create a Reference Image using a Build and Capture Task Sequence (Sysprep) in MDT.
- Deploy the Reference Image with CopyProfile set to True in the Unattend.xml
- After deployment is complete, login as a non-administrator user

CAUSE:

When adding the CopyProfile entry in the Unattend.xml, there are remnants of the administrator's profile that are left on the system (C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Microsoft\OneDrive).

*Opening C:\Users\Administrator and selecting Continue to grant Permission will allow users to launch OneDrive (not recommended).

ISSUE:

When trying to sync OneDrive using the new sync client with Windows 7 and Internet Explorer (IE), users receive message "You're already syncing this account".

-

This issue is seen when syncing SharePoint team sites using the newer version of OneDrive.exe (17.3.6743.1212 or higher).

Internet Explorer on Windows 7 handles protocols differently from newer versions of Windows (8/10), and other browsers (Chrome/Firefox).

RESOLUTION:

Sync the SharePoint team site using a non-IE browser i.e. Chrome or Firefox.

Microsoft's product group is aware of issue and is currently working on a fix.
