I would like to address the concern by providing some details regarding Security and regulatory compliance for Windows Azure.

The security for Microsoft Cloud is managed by Online Services Security and Compliance team, which maintains the security control framework and develops policies and programs for ensuring compliance and managing security risks. The Microsoft cloud undergoes annual audits for PCI DSS, SOX and HIPAA compliance, as well as internal assessments throughout the year. The Microsoft cloud has obtained ISO/IEC 27001:2005 certification and SAS 70 Type 1 and II attestations.

For more details on Microsoft approach to cloud security , read on..

One day I noticed that all of a sudden an message pops up with text “Some of the properties associated with the solution could not be read”, when I try to open my project in Visual Studio 2008. I remember that I had changed some build settings at the solution level, but was not sure what this message was all about.

Tried binging for results and figured out that people have faced this issue in VS 2003 and VS 2005. I followed the discussion, which eventually lead to opening up the .sln file in a text editor and figuring out what has really changed. I noticed that under the “Global” section, we have “GlobalSection” section, which actually has the number of projects in the solution along with the .csproj information in it. I was surprised to see that this section was repeated in my .sln file with different information (the SccNumberOfProjects attribute shows 68 at one place and 69 at other place). As I knew that my solution in fact had only 68 projects, I deleted the section with the incorrect information. And that was it!!! . The error went away ..

Technorati Tags: Visual Studio 2008,GlobalSection,SccNumberOfProjects

Microsoft released Windows Mobile 6.5 last week. With the release of 6.5, Microsoft also provided couple of new services namely Windows Marketplace for Mobile (With Windows Marketplace for Mobile you can find and download the latest apps for your phone) and Microsoft My Phone (Service to sync your phone and data to the web so it’s backed up and accessible).

The My Phone service provides some interesting features which can pretty useful. I have summarized some of the features as below:

Backup Phone content automatically to web

Information from your Windows Phone is backed-up to a password protected (Windows Live ID) site. In case you loose/ upgrade your phone you need not copy all contacts/messages from old phone to new, but you can just sync it with the web and your new phone is ready with all the required information.

Send Photos to your PC and Social Networking site

Most of us would have liked to click a photo from your mobile and upload it instantly to Facebook/Flickr/MySpace or Windows Live site. WM 6.5 provides this much awaited feature.

Finding your lost phone

The My Phone service can show you the last known location of your phone on a map (based on where it last synced or shared photos using My Phone).

Access Contacts/text message/appointment online

How many times have we lost charge on our phone/forgot phone in car and want to call a friend but does not have his/her contact number. As the My Phone Service syncs up all this information online, you can just view all the data online.

In case you want to know more follow the link.

Technorati Tags: Windows Mobile,Microsoft My Phone,My Phone,Windows Mobile 6.5,Backup Phone Contacts

I was using the Beta version of Windows 7 from couple of months (upgraded to RTM couple of days back).

Recently I figured out that the space available on my C:\ drive was exhausting. I remembered the XP days, wherein I can go and delete the hibernation file from my system (using Disk Cleanup) and gain around 3-4 GB of space on my drive. So I ran Disk Clean and was surprised to see that we do not have the option for removing hibernate file from my system. I tried figuring out the file, but without any success.

Binged around on the web and figured out that we have a tool powercfg (was actually available from Vista/2003 timeframe) for enabling/disabling hibernation in Window 7. The tool can be used to control power settings and configure computers to default to Hibernate or Standby modes. Thus you can use the following commands for enabling/disabling hibernation on Windows 7.

Enable hibernation

powercfg –h on

Disable hibernation

powercfg –h off

Technorati Tags: Hibernation,Windows 7,powercfg,Disable Hibernation,Enable Hibernation
