SharePoint Online Event handlers are deployed as Remote Event Receiver (RER), which uses the client-side object model (CSOM). Hence, the typical even race that happens when you have a code logic to update some property in ItemAdded/ItemUpdated will recursively trigger the ItemUpdated event. Since, it’s CSOM, the server side event disabling is not available. The only workaround to resolve this issue is to have conditional checks when ItemAdded/ItemUpdated event occurs. The most robust way I’ve seen it works is to programmatically disassociate and re-associate the event receivers when it’s not required to be fired.

The remote event receivers are mostly deployed as WCF service where it could be handled correctly. Below is the code snippet that I’ve used which works to resolve the event receiver issue:

SPRemoteEventResult IRemoteEventService.ProcessEvent(SPRemoteEventProperties properties)

Most of the organizations on Lotus Notes looking to migrate to SharePoint due to the operation cost and maintenance of their existing Lotus Notes Applications. The migration process needs to go through a methodical analysis of existing applications' business value, based on which it needs to be migrated/rebuilt to SharePoint. But just to get a quick idea on how Lotus Notes artifacts can be re-written to SharePoint equivalent items:

Lotus Notes Database = SharePoint Lists

Views = SharePoint List View

Forms = SharePoint List Forms / InfoPath Forms

Lotus Notes Scripts/Agents = C# code-behind

For data migration, there are lot of third-party tools available to read it from Lotus Notes DB to SharePoint lists. The most commonly used and efficiently used one is CASAHL. Before doing the data migration, the source data in Lotus Notes DB should be cleansed thoroughly and ensure data consistency to match the target SharePoint list schema, as Lotus Notes DB manage data in well-defined schema. Another thing to remember is, since Lotus Notes is a thick client application, for a geographically distributed organizations, the users might have entered data in different time zone & currency values for the same DB column. Just a quick pointers before you start thinking of migrating....

Recently, my Lumia 920 stopped connecting to Facebook IM chat. I tried all the solutions being posted on the internet, including resetting the account, switching off/on the services etc. Nothing worked, then I remembered adding an alias to my Microsoft account which is being used as a primary account on my phone, to which the Facebook account also connected. The new alias what I've added has been set as primary alias. So, I thought that could be the possible problem as the Facebook service is connected to my Microsoft account with my old alias. I changed my old email address as primary alias, and checked the Facebook chat, it started working....

So, for example if you've signed up your Windows Phone with a Microsoft account (Hotmail, live, msn, etc.), after which if you've set a new alias using Outlook.com, then make sure your old email address to which the Facebook services is connected is set as primary email alias.

In one of my projects there was a requirement to get the unique list of members from a given DG, which may have multiple levels of nested DGs. So, I thought of using the “System.DirectoryServices” namespace with “DirectoryEntry” & “DirectorySearcher” classes. But the challenge was to recursively expand the nested DGs and eliminate the duplicates across all nested DGs. I planned to write a recursive method which will do this. But, fortunately I found out that .NET Framework 3.5 introduced a new namespace “System.DirectoryServices.AccountManagement” which has more sophisticated methods to deal with AD. I started using the GroupPrincipal.GetMembers(bool recursive) method which did the job for me. Awesome… I just thought of sharing this as I spent quite a time in finding this solution. HAPPY CODING!!!

Recently, when I to write a SharePoint Server Object Model code snippet to fetch some list items, I came across this exception at “new SPSite(requestUrl)” method call. I was just wondering what could be the possible reason and after few minutes of browsing I found out there are multiple reasons that could contribute to this exception, which are as follows:

    - Insufficient privileges to SQL Server
    - Administrator on the Sharepoint Server
    - Part of the WSS_ADMIN_WPG
    - Farm Administrator
    - The Application Pool (for WSS Site and Central Admin) uses the same user

After ensuring everything in the above list, still it throws the same exception. Then, I changed my target platform in project properties to x64, as my DEV machine is 64 bit, then everything worked perfect. So, if you’ve a 64 bit machine please change your target platform to either x64 or “Any CPU”, which will resolve this issue.
