You can try the following below to resolve the issue. There could possibly be two things going on here-

We need to resync the taxonomyHiddenList

Crawl account doesn't have access to the taxonomy hidden list

For the first part-

Please run below script. Change the https://youurl to your site collection url and we should be good to run this!

$site = Get-SPSite https://yoururl

$session = Get-SPTaxonomySession -Site $site

$session.DefaultKeywordsTermStore.ResyncHiddenList($site)

$site.dispose()

For the second part-

You can access Taxonomy hidden list by browsing like this- [site url]/Lists/TaxonomyHiddenList/AllItems.aspx

Add the "Everyone" group to have read permissions to the taxonomy hidden list for the site collection.

If above two still don't resolve the issue then turn up the logging for SharePoint Search category and compare with below flow of events-

In below trace- Crawled property is- ows_taxId_TaxKeyword and it holds data like Investor,Developer,compliance for MMS column Taxkeyword

Hello!

I am listing below some common errors encountered when running Onboarding script for Cloud SSA and what their solution looks like-

Error: "Could not establish trust relationship for the SSL/TLS secure channel with authority" 'https://provisioningapi.microsoftonline.com/provisioningwebservice.svc' " when running Onborading script

We tried below poweshell to see if we can create a new web service proxy for the provisioning web service but it failed with same error. The credentials we entered were "tenant admin for O365" so that did not seem to be a problem.

$cred = Get-Credential

$proxy = New-WebServiceProxy -Uri 'https://provisioningapi.microsoftonline.com/ProvisioningWebService.svc?wsdl' -Credential $cred

Could not establish trust relationship for the SSL/TLS secure channel with authority 'https://provisioningapi.microsoftonline.com/provisioningwebservice.svc'

We could browse just fine to https://provisioningapi.microsoftonline.com/provisioningwebservice.svc with no certificate errors

Solution:

Browse to https://provisioningapi.microsoftonline.com/provisioningwebservice.svc and do view certificates and install the chain of certificates from here

Note: Need to ensure its entire chain is trusted

Open up mmc console and in certificates->trusted root authorities ensure all the 3 certificates are installed. Root cert, *.microsoftonline.com and also the intermediate certificate issued to Microsoft IT SSL SHA2. Most commonly the intermediate certificate certificate is missing

2. Error while Running On-Boarding script:

" Failed to call PreparePushTenant

Exception calling "ExecuteQuery" with "0" argument(s): "The request was

aborted: The request was canceled."

Re-ran the Onboarding script-and this time it ran successfully. If its a first time configuration (with no crawled data), it is safe and easy to run the Onboarding script. The script handles cleaning up the earlier trust setup and re creation. On our second run, the script ran through successfully

Onboarding script issue- Getting 401 Unauthorized on PreparePushtenant

C:\CloudHybridSearchScripts-2016\Onboard-CloudHybridSearch.ps1 : Failed to

call PreparePushTenant, error was Exception calling "ExecuteQuery" with "0"

argument(s): "The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized."

At line:1 char:1

+ .\Onboard-CloudHybridSearch.ps1 -PortalUrl

https://********.sharepoint.com ...

    + CategoryInfo : OperationStopped: (Failed to call ... Unauthoriz

   ed.":String) [Write-Error], RuntimeException

   ption calling "ExecuteQuery" with "0" argument(s): "The remote server retu

  rned an error: (401) Unauthorized.",Onboard-CloudHybridSearch.ps1

Now, for creating just cloudSSA application you need search service account but when you run the onboarding script- you need tenant global admin account

When the message Connecting to O365 appears, you will be prompted to sign in using a tenant global admin account:

Clearly looks from highlighted above that crawls were resumed during backup causing failures. This is expected as the Index files will not be consistent across partitions and to avoid inconsistencies in backup the backup job just fails.

We should just manually pause the SSA through CA or powershell. The whole idea on pausing SSA is to ensure that no new changes are made to the topology/query, crawl rules/ or any data on index files in the file system as this is part of the search configuration that we backup.

$ssa = Get-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceApplication <SearchServiceApplicationName>
Suspend-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceApplication -Identity $ssa

I recently worked on an issue where Excel files on File share were getting crawled just fine. However if you search on their filename you will see the result pulled up however the Filename is blank in the search result.

Note: this happens for fie which have their metadata "title" with no value. i.e Within the file if we go to file->prepare->Properties. Keep the title value empty.

Two workaround that I found are:

1. Manually add value to the title field of the file and then run a crawl

2. Put basic:10 at top of mapping to MP “title” and then run full crawl

Permanent solution:

On the Search farm (APC server) Sharepoint logs showed below:

On the Content farm using Sharepoint timer Account we queried the SSA proxy for the analytics tenant settings and we got– Access Denied

$ssaproxy.getRawAnayticsTenantSettings([GUID]::Empty)  ( Where $ssaproxy=get-spenterprisesearchserviceapplicationproxy)

Exception calling "getRawAnayticsTenantSettings"with "1" argument(s):"Access is denied"

(Also note above that GetRawAnayticsTenantSettings is not a typo)

Looking at the logs:

Few months ago worked on an issue where we were unable to crawl the Exchange Source. Crawl log...

Few months ago worked on an issue where we were unable to crawl the Exchange Source. Crawl log showed "Error while crawling LOB contents"

SP logs showed:

Errorinfo is "Error caused by exception: Microsoft.BusinessData.Infrastructure.BdcException The shim execution failed unexpectedly - Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation..: System.InvalidOperationException An internal server error occurred. Try again later." [fltrsink.cxx:566] search\native\mssdmn\fltrsink.cxx

Now the reason that the BDC Exception is seen here is because SharePoint 2013 used the BCS Connector Framework when crawling external data such as Exchange/ Lotus etc

The above error happened because the crawler account was getting throttled on Exchange server. I worked with our Exchange engineer and below solution resolved our issue and we were able to crawl the Exchange content source successfully.

Here is event ID 9646 log from Exchange server:

Log Name:      Application
Source:        MSExchange
Date:          2/13/2015 10:36:29 AM
Event ID:      9646
Task Category: General
Level:         Error
Keywords:      Classic
User:          N/A
Computer:      *******
Description:
Mapi session "8bcd2046-e644-4403-ae56-7be1c62e1e07: /o=J*****/ou=Exchange Administrative Group (******)/cn=Recipients/cn=SPSvcs service23a" exceeded the maximum of 250 objects of type "objtMessage".

Resolution Steps:

New-ThrottlingPolicy SharePoint  //this creates a new Throttling Policy called “SharePoint”;

• Type : Set-ThrottlingPolicy SharePoint -RCAMaxConcurrency $NULL -RCAPercentTimeInCAS $NULL -RCAPercentTimeInMailboxRPC $NULL -RCAPercentTimeInAD $NULL -EWSMaxConcurrency $NULL -EWSPercentTimeInAD $NULL -EWSPercentTimeinCAS $NULL -EWSPercentTimeInMailboxRPC $NULL -EWSMaxSubscriptions $NULL -EWSFastSearchTimeoutInSeconds $NULL -EWSFindCountLimit $NULL

• To confirm that all required settings have been set correctly please type: Get-ThrottlingPolicy SharePoint

• These items should now be blank:

CPAMaxConcurrency (Exchange 2010 SP1)
CPAPercentTimeInCAS (Exchange 2010 SP1)
CPAPercentTimeInMailboxRPC (Exchange 2010 SP1)
EWSMaxConcurrency
EWSPercentTimeInAD
EWSPercentTimeInCAS
EWSPercentTimeInMailboxRPC
EWSMaxSubscriptions
EWSFastSearchTimeoutInSeconds
EWSFindCountLimit
RCAMaxConcurrency
RCAPercentTimeInAD
RCAPercentTimeInCAS
RCAPercentTimeInMailboxRPC

To assign the Throttling Policy to the Default Access Account of SharePoint:

Set-Mailbox <Domain>\<UserName-DefaultContentAccessAccount> -ThrottlingPolicy SharePoint

Increase the number of allowed concurrent objects per session on the Exchange Server(s)

• Browse to the following registry key: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeIS\ParametersSystem\
•  Create a New Key called "MaxObjsPerMapiSession" ;
• Create a new Dword (32-bit) value objtFolder and set the value to 1000 ;
• Create a new Dword (32-bit) value objtMessage and set the value to 500;
• Restart the Exchange server after failing over the mailbox databases.

Note: I would recommend that you run these changes with your Exchange server Admin too to monitor any performance impact.
