As an experiment in content to help you better realize the ongoing business value of deploying an Office 365 feature, there is a new Utilization activities article for Office 365 Cloud App Security (previously known as Advanced Security Management).

This article is a new type of content to help you address the following questions for an Office 365 feature:

How do I measure the use of the new feature and what information do I send up the management chain to demonstrate its business value?

How do I know my configuration is correct over time for feature changes and industry trends and requirements?

How do I get back to a correct configuration for the feature after being away from it for a long time?

For seasoned IT pros, the answers to these questions can be quickly determined from the feature set and existing business processes in their IT departments. For IT pros that are relatively new or new to cloud services or for IT departments in smaller organizations, the answer is not always obvious.

The Utilization activities article is a first attempt to address these questions for Office 365 Cloud App Security. It includes:

Suggested ongoing operations tasks to receive and address security incidents and collect security incident information to send up your IT management chain.

Suggested periodic operations tasks for the IT department calendar to ensure that the Office 365 Cloud App Security policies are configured properly for the current set of security incidents, feature changes, and cybersecurity trends.

Step-by-step advice on how to return to a correct configuration after a protracted amount of time, incorporating Office 365 Cloud App Security feature enhancements and the latest cybersecurity trends.

We would love to hear from you about this new type of content.

What else would be helpful for addressing the three questions above?

Are there additional questions that would help you determine the ongoing business value of a feature?

Would you recommend this type of content for new IT pros?

The content for deploying a high-availability SharePoint Server 2016 farm in Azure steps you through creating and configuring the following:

This content has been updated for the use of:

Azure managed disks instead of storage accounts Managed disks are an easier and more scalable way to add operating system and data disks to Azure virtual machines. All you have to do is specify the type of storage (Premium or Standard) and the disk size, and Azure storage creates and manages the disks on your behalf. You no longer need to create and manage storage accounts.

Windows Server 2016 cloud witness as an alternative to the majority node server in the SQL cluster Windows Server 2016 now supports the use of a cloud witness for a failover Windows Server cluster, rather than deploying an additional virtual machine to act as the cluster quorum witness (the MN1 virtual machine in the figure above). This was suggested as a deployment alternative by a CAAB member at the August 2017 CAAB Webinar. Thanks for that suggestion!

The SharePoint Server 2016 High Availability Farm in Azure Deployment Kit, a ZIP file in the TechNet Gallery that contains additional resources to accelerate deployment (including all the new PowerShell code), has also been updated.

The new Secure SharePoint Online Sites and Files solution for Microsoft 365 Enterprise gives you a technical overview and the step-by-step deployment instructions to quickly set this up for your organization:

Here are the main elements of the configuration:

There are four types of SharePoint Online team sites—Public, Private, Sensitive, and Highly Confidential— with decreasing levels of ability to invite new members or accept requests for new members and increasing security.

For all four types of sites, an Office 365 label gets assigned by default to files in the site.

For sensitive sites, a Data Loss Prevention (DLP) policy warns users when they attempt to send a file with the Sensitive Office 365 label outside the organization.

For highly confidential sites, a DLP policy prevents users from sending the file with the Highly Confidential Office 365 label outside the organization and a Highly Confidential Azure Information Protection (AIP) label, when applied to a file, encrypts its contents and includes permissions that only allow members of specified groups to open it.

To set this up for demonstration, proof of concept, or dev/test, see Secure SharePoint Online sites in a dev/test environment.

This solution is designed for Microsoft 365 Enterprise E5, a new offering that combines Office 365, Enterprise Mobility + Security (EMS), and Windows 10 Enterprise.
