The results of the tests were very impressive, confirming that the joint solution can meet the performance and scalability requirements of very large tier-one insurance carriers. Highlights of the tests include the following:

Performance exceeded expectations. At peak production and with a simulated user community of 20,000, the system was able to process approximately $142 million in premium/hour and close to 70,000 transactions/day (including nightly batch renewals).

The system also demonstrated tremendous scalability. The tests showed that new business premium tripled from $8.55 million/hour to $25.19 million/hour when the workload and number of processing servers was tripled.

Policy page response times were less than 2 seconds for average-size and large-size policies (which make up 99% of a typical tier-one insurance carrier’s workload).

Microsoft and CSC have formed an alliance to support CSC’s Integral insurance suite on Microsoft software. Because Integral interoperates seamlessly with Windows Server and SQL Server, insurance carriers who deploy the joint CSC/Microsoft solution benefit from a modern, easy-to-manage solution for improving processes, customer service, and overall productivity. Windows Server delivers the power and reliability that businesses require to thrive and grow, while SQL Server provides the performance, availability, and security to manage large volumes of data intelligently and eliminate silos of information. The result is a streamlined solution with global reach that lets carriers operate regionally and internationally with ease.

To confirm the performance and scalability of the solution, CSC and Microsoft conducted benchmark testing on CSC’s Integral group and life insurance components running on SQL Server 2012 Enterprise and Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise. The results were very impressive. The group insurance component scaled to 330 concurrent users running against a 50,000-member database with a complex policy structure, and the life insurance component demonstrated a near-linear scalability to 1,500 concurrent users running against a database of 1 million policies--maintaining excellent performance in both cases. These results confirm that SQL Server is an
excellent choice for CSC’s Integral licensees.

Aspen PIMS Platinum—the newest product in AspenTech’s industry-leading solutions...

Aspen PIMS Platinum—the newest product in AspenTech’s industry-leading solutions for petrochemical and refinery planning and optimization—helps planners make fast, accurate, and profitable decisions about production, plant operations, feedstock selection, and market responses. PIMS Platinum provides powerful new user interfaces and analytical features that are accessible over the web. Running Aspen PIMS Platinum on SQL Server provides unmatched scalability and performance, supporting very large databases and making it possible for numerous concurrent users to access planning models and share real-time enterprise data across the organization.

To confirm the performance and scalability of PIMS Platinum running on SQL Server 2012 and on Windows Server 2008 R2, AspenTech and Microsoft conducted joint benchmark testing using a typical refinery planning model and up to 1,800 planning case instances. The tests demonstrated that as the amount of data and the number of concurrent users increase, the joint solution continues to provide real-time results. Aspen PIMS Platinum running on SQL Server 2012 scales to support local, workgroup, and enterprise deployments, and provides an effective new way for planners to visualize results and share them across their organization.

The Taiwanese banking sector is intensely competitive and fragmented, making it very challenging for banks to generate attractive margins by exercising price differentiation and charging appropriate risk premiums in the lending business. In response, many banks in Taiwan have been actively seeking alternative paths to growth and profitability, through expanding abroad (especially to mainland China), creating new product lines, achieving a higher level of segmentation and customization, increasing fee-based income, or enhancing customer service. To deploy these strategies effectively, it is necessary to have a modern, scalable, flexible and cost-effective core banking system such as TEMENOS T24 running on Microsoft technologies.

Bank SinoPac - a full-service Taiwan-based commercial bank with more than 3 million customers, 129 branches, and 2 million transactions per day - turned to Temenos and Microsoft in an effort to differentiate itself more clearly and enter new growth areas while managing its cost base. In July of 2012, Bank SinoPac went live with TEMENOS T24 running on SQL Server and Windows Server. The results have been amazing:

The time to complete the daily close-of-business (COB) has fallen by 70% (from 13 hours to 4 hours).

The month-end COB takes 6 hours less than before.

The batch input/ouput daily and monthly processing times are 1.4 and 3 hours shorter than before.

Annual hardware and software maintenance costs have been reduced by 50%.

SinoPac has substantially condensed its product go-to-market cycle, and now has a single integrated platform for expansion to mainland China and beyond.

These benefits will be amplified as Bank SinoPac grows, thanks to the proven scalability and resilience of the platform.

Kondor+ is a leading trade and risk management solution from Misys that lets users manage global trading activities on a single flexible, extensible platform. Misys Global Risk (MGR) is a framework for collaborative risk management, which includes components for managing market risk, credit risk, and credit limits in real time. The current releases of these MGR components and of Kondor+ are now available on SQL Server and Windows Server.

Misys and Microsoft worked together on a series of benchmarking tests to compare the performance of Kondor+ 3.3 and of the MGR components running on SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise and Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise to that of the solutions running on the Sybase ASE 15.5 data manager.

The test results were very impressive! Kondor+ and the MGR components running on SQL Server and Windows Server as the database back-end outperformed Sybase ASE in a majority of the test scenarios and matched performance in the others. Results included a 263% performance improvement for running Kondor+ financial reports and a 53% improvement for completing an MGR batch credit limit task.

In February 2012, OpenText and Microsoft conducted "real-world" performance and scalability testing on the Email Monitoring and Records Management components of the OpenText ECM offering running on SQL Server 2012. The tests measured the
peak ingestion of email messages, in addition to the throughput when ingestion and dispositions of email messages were running concurrently.

The benchmark testing results were very impressive, with a peak ingestion of 995,000 email messages in a single hour, 14.8 million messages in a 24-hour period, or 171 messages per second—up to 15 times what existing customers typically
ingest. In addition, the test results showed that OpenText Email Monitoring can maintain very high ingestion rates, even while processing disposition actions. Records Management was able to destroy 8.65 million emails in the same period in which another 7.2 million emails were ingested—confirming that Records Management can keep up with even the busiest email monitoring environments.

Detailed results, as well as information about the test environment and about the server configurations used, can be found in the white paper.
