ISVs are getting the Compatible with Windows 7 software logo. According to the Windows team blog, more than 6000 hardware and software applications that have received the logo and many more are added every day. You can see some of the partners who have already passed the logo tests at readyset7.com. For more about the logo benefits, see the blog post, The Windows 7 Logo Program.
Declaring Compatibility
In the United State, join the Front Runner program to get tech support in getting your application compatible. You also get additional marketing benefits once you declare your application compatible. If you are outside the United State, you can declare your application as being compatible at ISV App Compat.
Declaring your application is compatible gets your software listed in the Compatibility Center. Users and IT Pros will check the Compatibility Center when they get Windows 7 to see if the apps they have can run with Windows 7.
Earning the Logo
The Compatible with Windows. 7 software logo program, you can take it another step. Once you qualify, you can display the logo in your marketing materials to show your software is ready. Here’s the step you can take to earn the logo:
Here are a few simple steps towards getting started.
- Build out a 64-bit computer or virtual machine with Windows 7 and the toolkit installed.
- Download the Beta logo toolkit here
- Use the toolkit while you install, run, and uninstall your application. The toolkit creates a test report and recommendations for next steps.
- Submit the test report produced by the toolkit via WinQual. You’ll sign some documents on logo usage and add your application to the Compatibility Center.
- If a waiver is needed for a failing test case from the toolkit report, the streamlined waiver will be initiated directly through the toolkit UI
For a walkthrough of how the toolkit works, see Windows 7 Toolkit Validates Against All Requirements.
Once you earn the logo, you can submit your application to the Microsoft Partner Network for partner point and to be included in earning the ISV Competency.
