Introducing the Visual Studio ALM Rangers – Anthony Borton

This post is part of an ongoing series of Rangers introductions. See An index to all Rangers covered on this blog for more details.

Who are you?

I’m a long time gadget and technology guy with a strong passion around making development teams perform better through ALM best practises and tools. I’m self-employed which gives me the freedom to pursue engagements I really want to sink my teeth into.

I enjoy spending time with my family as much as possible and the photo here shows my son and I in an ice cave in New Zealand.

What makes you tick?

The sense of achievement I get when you see how I’ve helped turn a development team from a chaotic and challenged team into a well-oiled machine. If I’ve done my job properly its smiles all round from management right through to the developers and testers.

Where do you live?

Brisbane, Australia

Where do you call home?

The place where my family, pet, house and gadgets reside. I even get to visit it from time to time when I’m not travelling. (186 days away from home in 2010)

Travelling so much means you get to visit some fantastic places and meet some great people but it really makes you appreciate what you’ve got waiting for you at home at the end of a trip.

Why are you active in the Rangers Program?

I’ve made my career about helping development teams excel and I’m very community focused. It’s good to be able to volunteer some time to help out with Rangers projects whenever possible. I’ve also known Bijan and Willy for a number of years and it’s a pleasure to work with such dedicated people.

What is the best Rangers project you worked in and why?

I liked the Branching and Guidance project as it is something I frequently call on for helping many teams who have developed poor practices around branching in the past.
