With the deployment of innovative Cloud computing solutions, various industrial sectors can modernize their business operations and automate their resources

Karachi, April 11, 2013: Cloud computing has ushered a revolutionary advancement in the field of Information Technology. To create awareness about this innovative platform among the business community of the country, Microsoft Pakistan recently conducted a Private Cloud Immersion session for local media personnel. The event was organized in partnership with Fujitsu, which is the hardware partner of Microsoft Pakistan for the deployment of this cutting-edge technology across various organizations in Pakistan.

Cloud computing is a major paradigm shift in how IT resources are designed, managed and delivered. This new model opens a matchless avenue for innovation and covers virtualized infrastructure, advanced storage management, deep application management and data security. Microsoft solutions for Private Cloud, built on Windows Server, Hyper-V and System Center, are a key part of the company’s end-to-end approach to cloud computing. By improving on the way organizations currently consume IT, Microsoft can help businesses leverage investments and skill sets they already have, while taking advantage of the new value the cloud provides. Most importantly for local businesses the cloud service provider they trust their information or applications to will be around for the long term, because Microsoft’s belief in, and commitment to, the cloud is seen clearly in the fact that much of their annual $9.5 billion R&D budget — more than any other company in the world — is devoted to cloud technologies. Today, 70% of Microsoft’s 40,000 engineers work on cloud-related products and services because the company firmly believes in a cloud based future and the innumerable benefits it brings to industries not only in Pakistan but around the globe.

Speaking on this occasion, Amir Rao, country manager, Microsoft Pakistan said: “Information Technology permeates through every sector of our business environment. In this era of modernity, Microsoft Pakistan provides private cloud solutions to companies through which they can reform the workplace for employees across various departments and offices. Moreover, they enable you to deliver unrivaled services to your external stakeholders and engage with them more directly. Network administrators can explore new network management capabilities and configure the application performance mechanisms which are not possible otherwise. ”

Zafar Ul Islam, Lead Technology Strategist at Microsoft Pakistan briefed the media personnel on Cloud computing concepts and shared Microsoft vision and solution for Public, Private and Hybrid Cloud scenarios. He also explained how Private Cloud Immersion facility launched by Microsoft will help local system integrators and enterprise customers to gear up for this transformation towards cloud computing. Amim Muhammad Khan, CIE Specialist at Microsoft Pakistan presented live demo of Private Cloud Immersion scenarios.

The session was also attended by representatives of Fujitsu. Commenting on the development, Sajjad Abbas, regional sales manager – ME, Fujitsu Technology Solutions said: “Fujitsu is proud to have partnered with Microsoft Pakistan for the deployment of Private Cloud Technology. With the remarkable cloud solutions by Microsoft and adept hardware of our company, businesses will be able to revolutionize their operations and initiate an overall reformation of their infrastructure. This inventive platform gives an edge to every company and ensures a prosperous future.”

The benefits of adopting cloud computing makes it a valuable acquisition for any organization looking to reduce its cost and grow at the same time. The platform offers economies of scale by increasing productivity, reduces un-necessary spending on software licensing and it enables globalization of the workforce as people worldwide can access the cloud database. The Private Cloud Immersion technology by Microsoft Pakistan in partnership with Fujitsu will now enable local organizations to achieve greater efficiency and save on resources which can be utilized elsewhere.

Microsoft Private Cloud Immersion (PCI) facility is now operational at Microsoft Pakistan office, and enterprise customers can reach out to Microsoft team to schedule session for their team.

######

About Microsoft

Founded in 1975, Microsoft (Nasdaq "MSFT") is the worldwide leader in software, services and Internet technologies for personal and business computing. The company offers a wide range of products and services designed to empower people through great software - any time, any place and on any device.

Microsoft Pakistan opened its offices in 1999 with over 200 partners all over the country. MS Pakistan is Part of the NEPA subsidiary which comprises Lebanon, Jordan, Morocco, Algeria, Libya, Tunisia, Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria and the Palestinian authority.
Windows Update and Microsoft Update usage in Pakistan and worldwide

Microsoft provides several tools and services that enable users to download and install updates directly from Microsoft or from update servers designated by their system administrators. The update client software (called Automatic Updates in Windows XP and Windows Server 2003, and simply Windows Update in other currently supported versions of Windows) connects to an update service for the list of available updates. After the update client determines which updates are ap-plicable to the user’s computer, it installs the updates or notifies the user that they are available, depending on the way the client is configured and the nature of each update.

For end users, Microsoft provides two update services that the update clients can use:

Windows Update provides updates for Windows components and for device drivers provided by Microsoft and other hardware vendors. Win-dows Update also distributes signature updates for Microsoft antimalware products and the monthly release of the MSRT. By default, when a user enables automatic updating, the update client connects to the Windows Update service for updates.

Microsoft Update provides all of the updates offered through Windows Update and provides updates for other Microsoft software, such as the Microsoft Office system, Microsoft SQL Server, and Microsoft Exchange Server. Users can opt in to the service when installing software that is ser-viced through Microsoft Update or at the Microsoft Update Web site (update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate). Microsoft recommends config-uring computers to use Microsoft Update instead of Windows Update to help ensure they receive timely security updates for Microsoft products.

Enterprise customers can also use Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) or the Microsoft System Center family of management products to provide update services for their managed computers.

This chart shows the growth in the number of computers connecting to Windows Update and Microsoft Update in Pakistan over the last four years, indexed to the total usage for both services in Pakistan in 2008.

In 2012, the number of computers connecting to Windows Update and Microsoft Update in Pakistan was up 28.5 percent from 2011, and up 209.7 percent from 2008. By comparison, worldwide use of the two services increased 18.3 percent between 2011 and 2012, and 59.7 percent from 2008 to 2012.

Of the computers using the two update services in Pakistan in 2012, 47.0 percent were configured to use Microsoft Update, compared to 58.5 percent worldwide.

Microsoft Pakistan team had an Employee Volunteer Day in Fountain House recently. The team spent all the day with patients suffering from different psychological ailments . Employees of Microsoft Pakistan volunteered their services at Fountain House Lahore – a unique institution in Asia in the field of mental health. The employees spent their day interacting with the members of Fountain House who are undergoing rehabilitation treatment.

According to Peps Foundation’s survey of 2008, the estimated number of psychologically disturbed people in Pakistan is more than 14 million. The survey also reveals that there is only four major psychiatric hospitals and 20 such units attached to teaching hospitals, barely enough to serve a growing population.

As part of Microsoft’s global initiative – Employee Volunteer Day in which employees are given a day off with pay to adopt a socially responsible cause- this year a team of 36 employees spent their day with the members of Fountain House. The activities of the day included recreational activities like painting competition, music and sports. On a commonly used micro-benchmark, IE9’s improved JavaScript performance now holds the top spot in the industry, an improvement of almost 18 times from IE8.

4. IE9 is the only fully hardware-accelerated browser. All graphics, video and text in IE9 are hardware-accelerated. We re-architected IE9 to take full advantage of the Windows PC. IE9 was the first to introduce this concept and other browsers have been scrambling to catch-up. See the difference for yourself.

5. IE9 treats your favorite sites like apps. The site is the center of attention in IE9’s new frame. When you pin a site to the taskbar, your experience is even better. Over 250 of the world’s top sites have already taken advantage of Jump Lists, notifications, and thumbnail previews to make their sites more app-like. Web site publishers are seeing close to a 50% increase in engagement from their IE9 customers through pinned sites.

6. IE9 protects against 99% of socially-engineered malware. Malware is the #1 threat on the internet today. With Microsoft SmartScreen and the new SmartScreen application reputation feature in IE9, no other browser comes close in protecting consumers from these real-world threats. IE9 is 33 times better than Chrome and over 5 times better than Firefox.

7. IE9 is the only browser with integrated online tracking protection for consumers. Microsoft changed the browser and industry landscape with the introduction of IE9’s Tracking Protection, providing the only built-in browser solution protecting consumers today.

8. IE9 is leading with site-ready HTML5 support. IE9 is all in when it comes to delivering developers new standards-based capabilities with HTML5. Microsoft co-chairs the W3C HTML5 working group and during the IE9 release has contributed almost 6000 test cases to the W3C and international standards bodies. Currently, IE9 has the best conformance with W3C HTML5.

9. IE9 has had the strongest press in IE history: Here is a small sample of what reviewers are saying:

So download and start using IE9 today and start unveiling a more beautiful web waiting for you!

Web anti-malware scans Web pages for viruses, malware, and other threats.

URL filtering allows or denies access to Web sites based on URL categories (such as pornography, drug, hate, or shopping). Organizations can not only prevent employees from visiting sites with known malware, but also protect business productivity by limiting or blocking access to sites that are considered productivity distractions. URL filtering is also part of the Web Protection subscription service.

E-mail protection subscription service—Forefront TMG provides an e-mail protection subscription service, based on technology integrated from Forefront Protection 2010 for Exchange Server. Forefront TMG serves as a relay for SMTP traffic, and scans e-mail for viruses, malware, spam and content (such as executable or encrypted files) as it crosses the network.

Network Inspection System (NIS) enables traffic to be inspected for exploits of Microsoft vulnerabilities. Based on protocol analysis, NIS can block classes of attacks while minimizing false positives. Protections can be updated as needed.

HTTPS inspection enables HTTPS-encrypted sessions to be inspected for malware or exploits. Specific groups of sites, for example, banking sites, can be excluded from inspection for privacy reasons. Users of the Forefront TMG Client can be notified of the inspection.

Enhanced Network Address Translation (NAT) enables you to specify individual e-mail servers that can be published on a 1-to-1 NAT basis.

Enhanced Voice over IP support includes SIP traversal, enabling simpler deployment of Voice over IP within the network.

In order to enable Web Protection Service of TMG 2010, customers would need a per user subscription license for the service in addition to TMG 2010 Standard or Enterprise Edition Processor License. For TMG 2010 licensing and pricing information please click here

TMG 2010 also provide good reporting capabilities in the following categories:

<img style="background-image: none;
