Overview
Over the last few years we have shipped a series of new releases that have transformed Microsoft Dynamics NAV and your market opportunity. More recently we have shared our unique vision for bringing Dynamics NAV customers to the Intelligent Cloud and the opportunity for partners to provide even more value helping their customers to digitally transform. With this latest release, Microsoft Dynamics NAV is renamed Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central on premises to be united under the Dynamics 365 Business Central brand. Dynamics NAV customers upgrading to Business Central on premises will enjoy the unique flexibility to continue running on premises, move to the cloud, or adopt a hybrid approach. This gives partners powerful new opportunities to add value and drive new revenue opportunities. Explore CustomerSource resources for additional information about this new release.

CU 1 Release
When you upgrade on-premises deployments to this update, you must use a new license that covers more scenarios than the one for the original release in October 2018.
Why this new license?
In cumulative update 1 (CU 1), we have enabled new licensing scenarios so that Business Central on-premises is optimized for licenses with named users. This was not fully supported in the RTM version that was made available on October 1, 2018, and that is why CU 1 requires a new license. You can pull new licenses when you upgrade customers to CU 1.
The new licenses are required for cumulative update 1 and later versions of Business Central on-premises and are not backwards compatible with earlier versions of Business Central on-premises.
What has changed?
With CU 1, Business Central on-premises is optimized for licenses with named users.
Additionally, the new licenses allow for solutions to be registered in the range 70,000,000-74,999,999.
