Business value
This feature simplifies the import process by allowing direct import of Microsoft Project desktop client files (.mpp files) into an existing project. It helps make online and offline planning seamless.
Feature details
Previously, importing an .mpp file always created a new project. The import process copied the work breakdown structure from the .mpp file into the new project. You couldn't import an .mpp file into an existing project. This limitation made it difficult to manage projects when overall planning happens in Project Operations and individual planning happened offline in Microsoft Project for desktop.
With this feature, you can import .mpp files into existing projects so you can keep your overall planning intact. This feature works with the Copy project feature but uses an .mpp file for import.
You can:
- Set calendar hours (existing capability).
- Set the project manager (existing capability).
- Set schedule mode if the import process allows override (existing capability).
- Select the source MPP file (existing capability).
- Select the target project (new capability).
