Click Accounts receivable > Common > Customer invoices > Open customer invoices. On the Action Pane, click Calculate interest, and then click Customer or Invoice.

Use this form to calculate interest for the selected invoice or for all open and closed transactions for the selected customer. The value in the Interest calculation field in the Accounts receivable parameters form determines whether interest is calculated for an invoice or for all transactions. If you open this form from the Accounts receivable area page, you also generate interest notes that appear in the Interest note form. You can use the Interest note form to print and post the interest notes that are sent to customers.

When you open this form from the Open customer invoices list page, you can either calculate interest or create a new interest note.

Note

Interest is not calculated on amounts that result from foreign currency revaluations. Only the original transaction amounts, in the transaction currency, are included.

Description

Billing classification

Select one or more billing classifications to include in the results. If no classification is selected, all transactions that have a billing classification assigned to them are included.

Note

This control is available only if the Public Sector configuration key is selected.

Include transactions without a billing classification

If this check box is selected, all transactions that do not have a billing classification assigned to them will appear in the results.

Note

This control is available only if the Public Sector configuration key is selected.

Invoice

Select this check box to calculate interest for the selected invoices. Transactions for amounts that are more than zero are considered invoices, even if they do not have invoice numbers.

Interest calculations for invoices use the details that are specified on the Earnings tab in the Interest form for the applicable interest code.

Credit note

Select this check box to deduct credit notes to the customer before the calculation. Transactions for amounts that are less than zero, and that have an invoice number, are considered credit notes.

Interest calculations for credit notes use the details that are specified on the Payments tab in the Interest form for the applicable interest code.

Payment

Select this check box to deduct payments from the customer before the calculation. Transactions for amounts that are less than zero, and that do not have an invoice number, are considered payments.

Interest calculations for payments use the details that are specified on the Payments tab in the Interest form for the applicable interest code.

Interest

Select this check box to calculate interest on previous interest notes (compound interest). This includes transactions that have a transaction type of Interest.

Interest calculations for interest notes use the details that are specified on the Earnings or Payments tab in the Interest form for the applicable interest code. The calculations are based on either the Earnings or Payments tab, depending on the net amount on the original interest note.

From date

Enter a starting date for the calculation, which then includes transactions that are due on or after this date. For interest codes that use the Single rate interest type, the calculation uses the specifications that are defined for the interest code for the version that is in effect as of this date.

If you want to calculate interest on all transactions, do not enter a date in this field. For interest codes that use the Single rate interest type, the calculation uses the specifications that are defined for the interest code for the version that is in effect as of the system date, which is usually today’s date.

For interest codes that use the Multiple rate interest type, the value in the From date field is used only for including transactions that are due on or after this date. The specifications for this type of interest calculation are obtained from one or more versions of the interest code that are in the range of dates that is specified for the interest calculation.

To date

Enter an ending date for the calculation, which then includes transactions that are due on or before this date. If you do not enter a date in this field, the calculation uses the system date, which is usually today’s date.

Round-off

Enter the general unit to use when rounding the interest notes that are generated. For example, enter 0.10 to round to the nearest tenth, or 1.00 to round to the nearest whole unit.

Use posting profile from

Select one of the following:

  • Account – Select this option to use the posting profile that is specified in the Ledger and sales tax area of the Accounts receivable parameters form, using the setup record that is relevant to the customer account for each interest note.

    Note

If the Public Sector configuration key is selected, interest will be calculated for each invoice line instead of the whole invoice.

Posting profile

If you selected Select in the Use posting profile from field, select the posting profile to use for interest notes.
