Kanban quantity calculation (form)

Applies To: Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 Feature Pack, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012

Click Production control > Periodic > Lean manufacturing > Kanban quantity calculation.

Use this form to calculate the kanban quantities that are used in kanban rules. The calculation determines the average projected demand that occurs during the defined calculation period. The calculation is based on the known demand from forecasts, open orders, past orders, and historic consumption.

Note

Before you can use this form, a kanban quantity calculation policy must be created. See Kanban quantity calculation policies (form) for more information.

Make sure that the master plan that is associated with the calculation policy is up to date.

To calculate kanban quantities, follow these steps:

  1. Create a kanban quantity calculation, and define the date parameters that are used in the calculation.

  2. On the Kanban quantity proposals tab, click Generate to generate calculation lines for the items that are replenished by the associated kanban rules. Each kanban rule generates one calculation line that is included in the calculation. You can also manually add calculation lines to the calculation and remove calculation lines from the calculation, either before or after you perform the calculation.

  3. On the Kanban quantity proposals tab, click Calculate to calculate the kanban quantities for each proposal line. The proposal lines are calculated based on the kanban quantity calculation policy that is selected and the date parameters that are defined.

  4. Based on the results of the calculation, you can create or update kanban rules that become effective on the current date or a future date.

The following tables provide descriptions for the controls in this form.

FastTabs

Tab

Description

General

Select the dates that are used to calculate projected demand.

Kanban quantity proposals

Create and maintain kanban quantity proposals for the calculation.

Buttons

Button

Description

New

Create a kanban quantity calculation.

Delete

Delete a kanban quantity calculation.

Add

Manually add a calculation line by selecting a kanban rule to include in the calculation.

Remove

Manually remove a calculation line from the calculation.

Generate

Generate calculation lines for all the kanban rules that are associated with the defined policy, and that are valid on the date that the calculation is effective. These rules are included in the calculation.

Calculate

Calculate the kanban quantities for the selected kanban rules. You can perform the calculation multiple times.

Update

Update the selected kanban rules by using the results of the calculation.

A rule is updated if it is valid on the date and time that are defined in the Rule effective date field. If no existing rule is valid on this date and time, a new rule is created. This new rule replaces the original rule on the date and time that are defined in the Rule effective date field.

Open the Kanban rules form, where you can view detailed information about the rule.

Fields

Field

Description

Name

Enter the unique identifier of the calculation.

Policy

Select the policy that is used for the kanban quantity calculation. The calculation is based on the parameters that are defined in this policy.

Status

The current status of the calculation. The following values are used:

  • Created – The calculation has been created, but the kanban quantities have not yet been calculated.

  • Calculated – The kanban quantity proposals have been generated, and the kanban quantities have been calculated.

  • Updated – The validity dates of the existing kanban rules have been updated.

Rule effective date

Select the date and time when the new kanban rules that are generated by using the Update function become valid.

Rule active as of date

Select the date and time that are used to define which fixed kanban rules are included in the calculation. Rules that are valid on the defined date are listed when you use the Generate function.

Fulfilled demand period start date

Select the date and time from which any past demand transactions that are fulfilled are included in the calculation.

Fulfilled demand period end date

Select the date and time until which any past demand transactions that are fulfilled are included in the calculation.

Demand period start date

Select the date and time from which any current demand transactions are included in the calculation.

Demand period end date

Select the date and time until which any current demand transactions are included in the calculation.

Kanban rule

Select the rule that is included in the calculation.

Item number

The identifier of the product that is replenished by the rule.

Unit

The unit of measure that is used for the item.

Fulfilled demand

The average daily past demand that is calculated for the period that is defined by the Fulfilled demand period start date and Fulfilled demand period end date fields.

Demand

The average daily current demand that is calculated for the period that is defined by the Demand period start date and Demand period end date fields.

Safety stock

The quantity that is calculated as safety stock for the period that is defined by the Demand period start date and Demand period end date fields.

Safety stock is calculated only if this parameter is defined in the kanban quantity calculation policy that is referenced.

Product quantity

The product quantity that is defined on the current kanban rule.

Kanban quantity

The defined or calculated kanban quantity. When the calculation has the status Created, this field displays the kanban quantity that is defined for the current rule. When the calculation has the status Calculated, this field displays the kanban quantity that is calculated and rounded up.

Unrounded

The kanban quantity that is calculated and not rounded up.
