Assigned indirect cost components (form)

Applies To: Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 Feature Pack, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012

Click Project management and accounting > Setup > Indirect costs > Indirect cost component groups. In the Indirect cost component groups form, click Assign indirect cost components.

Use this form to add or remove indirect costs in an indirect cost component group. You can also define the rules to use to calculate an indirect cost amount and related revenue amount for an indirect cost component.

Indirect costs, also named indirect cost components, are calculated as a specific value per worker hour or as a percentage of the cost added to a project for each worker hour. You can select specific workers to associate with indirect costs. When you assign a worker to a project, and the worker posts hours to the project, the associated indirect costs are automatically calculated and posted to the project. For more information about how to associate indirect costs with specific workers, see Indirect cost component group assignment rules (form).

Note

If you are using Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 Feature Pack or Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012, this form is available only if the Project Management and Accounting Add-in is installed.

Description

Compounding rules

Select whether to create a compounding rule for an indirect cost, revenue, and invoice amount. A compounding rule increases the value added to a project for the selected indirect cost. The revenue amount and the amount that you add to a customer invoice for indirect costs can differ.

Open a menu that contains the following items:

  • Cost – Open the Cost compounding rules form, where you can specify the multiplier for the selected indirect cost component.

  • Revenue – Open the Revenue compounding rules form, where you can specify the multiplier for the revenue for the selected indirect cost component.

  • Invoice – Open the Invoice compounding rules form, where you can specify the multiplier for the amount to add to a project invoice for the selected indirect cost component.

Model rates

Open the Model rates form, where you can view the calculated hourly values for cost, revenue, and invoice amount for an indirect cost, based on the compounding rules and calculation method that you selected.

Fields

Field

Description

Date

Enter the date on which the rule is effective.

Indirect cost component

Select an indirect cost component to include in the indirect cost component group.

Name

The detailed name of the indirect cost component.

Calculate method

Select the method to use to calculate the indirect costs, from the following values:

  • Percent – If this is selected, the indirect cost is calculated as a percentage of the hourly cost of a specified worker.

  • Unit rate – If this is selected, the indirect cost is calculated as an amount per unit of work, which is typically defined as a timesheet hour.

Cost rate

Enter the rate to use to calculate the amount of the indirect cost added to project costs. If you selected a percentage in the Calculate method field, the percentage is multiplied by a specified worker’s hourly rate. If you selected a unit rate in the Calculate method field, the unit rate is multiplied by the number of hours posted by a specified employee.

Revenue rate

Enter the rate to use to calculate the amount of revenue to post to the project. If you selected a percentage in the Calculate method field, the percentage is multiplied by a specified worker’s hourly rate. If you selected a unit rate in the Calculate method field, the unit rate is multiplied by the number of hours posted by a specified employee on the project.

Invoice rate

Enter the rate to use to calculate the amount on the project invoice. If you selected a percentage in the Calculate method field, the percentage is multiplied by a specified worker’s hourly rate. If you selected a unit rate in the Calculate method field, the unit rate is multiplied by the number of hours posted by a specified employee on the project.
