Quality association setup

A quality association defines all of the following for a quality order that is generated by the system:

  • The transaction event

  • The set of tests that must be performed on the items

  • The acceptable quality level (AQL)

  • The sampling plan

A quality association must be defined for each variation in a business process that requires the automatic generation of a quality order. A quality order can be generated by the system in the business processes for purchase orders, quarantine orders, sales orders, and production orders.

Example

A manufacturing company has quality guidelines that define the conditions for when tests should be performed for each variation in the purchase receipt process. You define these conditions, and the associated tests, in the Quality associations form. When a purchase is received, the system can generate a quality order that is based on the test requirements that are defined for the quality association. For example, a quality order can be generated before or after the posting of a receipts list or a product receipt for the received material.

Tip

  • A quality order that requires destructive testing can be generated only after the posting of the packing slip for the received material. The material must be available for destructive testing.

  • The generation of a quality order can reflect the quality guidelines for a particular site, vendor, or type of item.

The following table provides descriptions for the controls in this form.

Fields

Field

Description

Site

Select the site for the quality association. An empty value represents a company-wide guideline.

Reference type

Select a business process for quality orders that are generated by the system. The business process determines how the quality guidelines can be defined for transaction events and conditions. For example, a Sales reference can generate a quality order before or after the picking list is posted. If the quality order is to be generated by the posting of a packing slip, the Before and After options are not available in the Execution field.

Note

Do not select Inventory in this field. A quality order with the Inventory reference type cannot be generated by the system. Therefore, a quality association cannot be created for this reference type. A quality order with the reference type Inventory must be created manually.

Item code

Select whether the quality guidelines apply to a specific item, a group of items, or all items.

Item

Select the applicable item number or quality group. Depending on your selection in the Item code field, you can select an item or an item group.

Account code

Define the scope of orders that the account that you select in the Account selection field applies to. The order type depends on the business process that is selected in the Reference type field:

  • Sales reference type – Select whether the quality guidelines for a sales order process apply to a specific customer, a group of customers, or all customers.

  • Purchase reference type – Select whether the quality guidelines for a purchase order process apply to a specific vendor, a group of vendors, or all vendors.

Account selection

Select either a customer or customer group or a vendor or vendor group.

Resource code

Select whether the quality guidelines for a route operation apply to a specific operations resource, a group of operations resources, or all operations resources.

Resource

Enter an operations resource or operations resource group. Depending on your selection in the Resource code field, you can choose from items in the resource or resource groups table.

Document type

Select or view the applicable transaction in the business process that, together with the policy for execution timing, triggers a quality order. The applicable transactions reflect the reference type of the business process. For example, the applicable transaction for a sales order includes the picking list and the packing slip.

Execution

Select whether the applicable transaction triggers a quality order before or after the event.

Show info

Select whether the Infolog form for the applicable transaction should display a notification about quality orders that are generated by the system.

Event blocking

The document process that is on hold as long as an open quality order exists for the items included in the quality association. The document process that can be on hold depends on the reference type, the document type, and the time of execution of the quality order. For example, for a sales order, you can place the packing slip process on hold until the quality order process is closed for the affected items.

Quarantine upon validation failure

Select this check box to create a quarantine order for any inventory items that fail a quality validation. By selecting this check box, you ensure that inventory that is blocked during quality inspection remains blocked after inspection.

Test group

Select the test group that applies to quality orders that are generated by the system. The test group defines the set of tests, the need for destructive tests, and the default values for the AQL and the sampling plan. The default values can be overridden for a quality association record. When the test group requires destructive tests, it cannot be assigned to certain types of quality associations.

Effective

Enter the date on which this quality association begins.

Expiration

Enter the date on which this quality association expires.

Item sampling

Select the sampling plan for the quality association record. The value uses the sampling plan that is assigned to the selected test group.

Acceptable quality level

Select the AQL for the quality association record. The value uses the AQL that is assigned to the selected test group.
