Manage clinical app connectors (preview)

Important

Clinical app connectors are currently in preview. To use this feature in Dragon admin center, you must accept the preview terms before first use and whenever they're updated.

The information in this article doesn't apply to the Dragon Copilot (radiologists) capability.

Clinical app connectors enable Dragon Copilot to exchange data with other systems and applications. This capability can include embedding the Dragon Copilot web app into another solution, adding a schedule feed to the Dragon Copilot desktop app and mobile apps, or recording ambient conversations by using a custom app from a Dragon Copilot partner.

A clinical app connector has two parts:

  • The service from the Dragon Copilot partner. You get this service as a subscription from Microsoft Marketplace, directly from the Dragon Copilot partner, or as part of the license for the partner solution. This part defines what data is exchanged between Microsoft and the partner solution.

  • The configuration in Dragon admin center. This configuration is your environment-specific deployment of the connector, where you establish the link between Dragon Copilot and the partner's solution. You also enable users by adding their app user IDs, which are the credentials for the solution you're linking to Dragon Copilot. This part defines the technical details that allow the data to be exchanged.

Add a clinical app connector

After you create an environment, add your clinical app connector. Dragon admin center supports only one connector per environment. If your organization requires multiple connectors, set up a separate environment for each connector.

Clinical app connectors are associated with environments in Dragon admin center. They aren't specific to organizational units.

Prerequisites

Select or upload a clinical app connector

  1. In the navigation pane, under Environment configuration, select Clinical app connector.
  2. Verify you selected the correct environment in the drop-down menu at the top of the page.
  3. Select Configure and select a clinical app connector from the list. Alternatively, select Upload custom connector to upload the .zip file that contains your clinical app connector's technical configuration package.
  4. Attest to the integration terms.
  5. Select Deploy. If you uploaded a custom connector, select Upload custom app.
  6. Follow the steps in the configure section to set up the connector with your environment-specific details.

When Microsoft updates the integration terms, you receive a notification on the clinical app connector page.

Configure a clinical app connector

Note

Microsoft accepts access tokens issued by the publisher of the clinical app connector. Microsoft validates the access token by inspecting the access token's issuer claim and comparing it to the value you configure.

Clinical app connectors have different configuration requirements. When you purchase the connector, the publisher provides the information necessary to complete the required configuration sections. When you configure the connector, you only see options that are required for the specific connector that you added. You need to complete all required configuration details for the clinical app connector to work with your Dragon Copilot capability.

  1. In the Environment configuration section of the navigation pane, select Clinical app connector.

  2. Verify you selected the correct environment in the drop-down menu at the top of the page.

  3. Select Configuration.

  4. Select Edit authentication to add or update the issuer claim, user identity claim, and customer identity claim.

  5. Select Edit web launch to add or update SMART on FHIR configuration and token configuration.

    In the SMART on FHIR configuration, provide the base URL, reverse proxy URL, and SMART on FHIR issuer URL.

    In the token configuration, provide the access token issuer URL and user identity claim.

  6. Select Edit context retrieval to add or update the base URL, service principal, app user ID, inbound client ID, outbound client ID, and outbound secret.

  7. Select User consent to add or update the base URL, scopes, response type, client ID, and secret.

  8. Select Save changes.

Remove a clinical app connector

If you remove a clinical app connector, the connector can't work with your Dragon Copilot capability. This action also deletes the mappings of app user IDs with Microsoft Entra user IDs.

After you remove a clinical app connector, you can't re-enable it. To restore the connector, you need to add it and configure it again.

  1. In the navigation pane, under Environment configuration, select Clinical app connector.
  2. Verify you selected the correct environment in the dropdown menu at the top of the page.
  3. On the clinical connector page, select Actions > Remove.
  4. Confirm the action and select OK.

Associate app user IDs with a clinical app connector

App user IDs are the credentials of the partner solution you're integrating with Dragon Copilot. You need to associate each app user ID with a corresponding Microsoft Entra ID. Verify app user IDs when you add them to the clinical app connector.

The accuracy of this mapping is critical to protect patient privacy.

Associate individual app user IDs with a clinical app connector

  1. In the navigation pane, under Environment configuration, select Clinical app connector.
  2. Verify you selected the correct environment in the dropdown menu at the top of the page.
  3. On the App user IDs tab, select Add app user ID.
  4. Select the user from the list of users in your Microsoft Entra tenant and select Add.
  5. Enter the user's app user ID in the App user ID field.
  6. Select Save.

Upload app user IDs in bulk as a CSV file

  1. In the navigation pane, under Environment configuration, select Clinical app connector.
  2. Verify you selected the correct environment in the dropdown menu at the top of the page.
  3. On the App user IDs tab, select Upload app user IDs.
  4. Dragon admin center provides an example CSV file with examples and headers. Download the example CSV file for reference.
  5. After you update the CSV file with your own data, browse for the file, and then select Upload to add the app user IDs to Dragon admin center.

Delete app user IDs

  1. In the navigation pane, under Environment configuration, select Clinical app connector.
  2. Verify you selected the correct environment in the dropdown menu at the top of the page.
  3. On the App user IDs tab, select the check box next to one or more users.
  4. Select Delete app user ID.
