Feature details

When monitoring critical events with Power BI, it’s important that the data is reflected in Power BI as soon as the data source gets updated. For example, in the manufacturing industry, it's critical to know when a particular machine is malfunctioning.

There are several updates to automatic refresh that we are releasing. Report authors using a DirectQuery source will be able to set the refresh interval of visuals on each report page. For very fast updating sources, this near real-time experience will allow users to monitor time-critical reports and ensure that they are always viewing the latest data.

To accomplish this, Power BI will optimize refreshes based on cached data and will allow authors to define data change measures. This will minimize the impact on the DirectQuery source. In addition, if the report author adds a relative time slicer, this will enable improved filtering experiences on top of fast changing sources.
