Business value

Protect sensitive business data to help adhere to compliance rules for data security.

Feature details

Object-level security (OLS) restricts access to sensitive tables and columns. Sensitive data includes personally identifiable information (PII). In addition to the data in the secured tables and columns, the metadata is also secured to help prevent a malicious user from discovering that such an object exists. Authoring OLS rules in the Power BI dataset can be done with tools that use the XMLA endpoint.

OLS is a feature inherited from Azure Analysis Services and SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS), providing backward compatibility for models migrated to Power BI.
