Before running the iSCSI HBA tests, you must configure the computer and install the operating system. This section summarizes the related procedures.
For a complete list of required hardware, software, and tester knowledge, see iSCSI HBA Controller Testing Overview.
Many of the tests in the Microsoft Windows Driver Kit (WDK) require a test system to restart (often more than once) to complete a test run. To facilitate this DTM will configure the client to automatically login using the DTMLLUAdminUser. This happens when you first create your submission. DTM will also turn off workstation locking and prevent the machine from automatically hibernating/sleeping. If you wish to Remote Desktop into the client after starting a submission, please use DTMLLUAdminUser.
Test System Configuration
The iSCSI HBA tests require an iSCSI HBA, two Gigabit NICs, and two target devices that are connected to a network. The following figures illustrate this configuration without a bridge (Figure 1) and with a bridge (Figure 2).

Before you run the iSCSI HBA controller logo tests, you must assemble and configure the test system according to the following procedures.
To assemble the test system for iSCSI controller testing
- Install the iSCSI controller in the test system.
- Connect both 1-GB network cards to the network.
- Connect the iSCSI controller to the network.
- If you are using an iSCSI bridge, connect the bridge to the network.
- If you are using an iSCSI bridge, connect the disk storage system and the combination tape and medium changer to the bridge.
**– or –
**If you are not using an iSCSI bridge, connect the disk storage system and the combination tape and medium changer to the network.
To configure the test system for iSCSI controller testing
Turn on the test system.
Install the Microsoft Windows operating system on one hard disk drive. If the iSCSI HBA supports boot, install the operating system on an iSCSI disk target that is different from the one that you will use for testing.
If necessary, install any manufacturer-supplied drivers that the devices in the test system require.
Use the iSCSI Control Panel to log on to all target devices. When logging on to the targets, be sure to check “Automatically restore this connection when the system boots.”
Important You must log on to all iSCSI target devices that you use for testing. You must not log on to any other iSCSI target devices; otherwise, the WDK tests will not work properly.
Use Disk Managment to create three 4GB NTFS volumes on the disk storage system that does not contain the operating system. Assign each volume a drive letter.
Use the iSCSI Control Panel to bind all of the drive letters created in step 5.
Do the following to make the system page file larger than the size of RAM and enable crashdumps:
Click the Start button, right-click My Computer, and click Properties.
Click the General tab, and then note the amount of RAM that the computer has.
Click the Advanced tab, and then, in the Performance area, click Settings.
Click the Advanced tab, and then, in the Virtual Memory area, click Change.
Select Custom Size, and then enter a number in the Initial size (MB) box that is larger than the size of RAM that you noted in step b.
Note You specify the size Initial Size in megabytes (MB). If the amount of RAM on your computer was specified using gigabytes (GB) or some other measure, convert the amount of RAM to MB before you enter a value for Initial Size.
6. In the **Maximum size (MB)** box, enter a maximum size value that is larger than the initial size that you entered in the **Initial size (MB)** box. (The maximum size is typically 1.5 to 2 times the initial size.)
7. Click **Set**, and then click **OK** twice.
8. Click **OK**, and then restart the operating system to update the page file size.
Restart the computer to commit these settings.
Install the Microsoft Windows Symbol Files to the %SystemDrive%\Symbols directory.
Do the following to configure the machine for testing in DTM Studio.
Deploy the WDK\ConfigureStorageAdapter dimension.
Click Explorers, and then click Device Console.
In the Create New Submission dialog box, select your operating system, and then click Next.
Type a name for your submission and select the machine pool that was created earlier. Click Next.
Select Storage > Adapter or Controller when prompted for the logo program, and then click Next.
If you are testing a driver, browse to the driver, and then load that driver when prompted. Otherwise select the I am not providing an INF or Driver Package check box, and then click Next.
If you selected the I am not providing an INF or Driver Package check box, select your test device from the list when prompted, and then click Next. The following dialog box appears:

In the Bus type connecting adapter to storage box, select iSCSI. Select the check boxes for any additional features implemented by your adapter.
Click Next, and then click Finish to complete the submission.
After you have prepared the test environment, you can run the iSCSI HBA tests.
