Chapter 8: Working with Calendars

For many people, the desire to keep track of time and when events occur is paramount. For these people, the invention of the calendar was truly a remarkable event, and, through the centuries, calendars have sufficed very well as a means of noting important times. Once calendars went digital, things really began to take off. Now, people can enter information about important appointments in an electronic device, and the device will help them remember those appointments. The device can even show them a nice view of their events by day, week, or month. No more bad penmanship, no more endless sticky notes. Our digital lifestyle now includes the ability to note events that will take place next week or years in the future. We also have the ability to record in our digital calendars a particular meeting that will recur every third Tuesday of each month, and when that third Tuesday arrives, our digital assistants are more than happy to remind us.

Despite these wonderful advancements, putting together a well-defined, solid, and reliable calendaring server is no small task. Fortunately, the Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Web Services (EWS) team has years of calendaring experience and has produced one rock-solid platform for collaboration.
