Miscellaneous Functionality Added to Windows Mobile Version 5.0

The following table shows functionality that is new with Windows Mobile Version 5.0.

Item Description
AT Command Interface Improvements

(Pocket PC and Smartphone)

Provides an AT command interface on Windows Mobile–based Pocket PC, which makes it possible for a laptop computer to use the Pocket PC as a modem. The AT command interface was previously available on Windows Mobile-based Smartphone only.

Immproves the stability of the code and provides the code in a form that an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) can modify and enhance as needed.

GPS Intermediate Driver with API

(Pocket PC Only)

Provides the capability for GPS data fed into a Windows Mobile-based device by a built-in or third party accessory GPS module to be used within different applications on the device.
Update Firmware through OMA DM Protocol

(Pocket PC and Smartphone)

Provides a mobile operator with the capability to deliver patches or updates to the firmware through the OMA DM protocol. For example, a critical security patch can be delivered to the device to fix a security problem in the operating system, patch the radio, or update a driver.

The mobile operator sends a SMS message to the device to initiate a DM session with the DM server for the mobile operator. The DM client on the device responds to the server. The server delivers the patch download link to the device. The device downloads the patch and installs it.

Configure Proxy and Network Access Point Over OMA DM Protocol

(Pocket PC and Smartphone)

Provides a mobile operator with the capability to add a new WAP gateway and a new GPRS access point to the Windows Mobile–based device.

The mobile operator sends a SMS message to the device to initiate a DM session with the DM server for the mobile operator. The DM client on the device responds to the server. The server configures the device, the new gateway, and the GPRS access point. The device notifies the server of configuration success.

ARM Emulator Support

(Pocket PC and Smartphone)

Provides support for the ARM emulator through Microsoft development tools.
