Unified Communications Application Server Components

The unified communications Application Server is automatically installed on every Front End Server in an Enterprise pool and every Standard Edition server. As such, the components required to deploy the Application Server are the same as those required to deploy Enterprise Edition or Standard Edition.

Office Communications Server 2007 R2 does not provide an explicit option to install or activate the Application Server. The Application Server is always installed, but it is not activated until you activate any of the following unified communications applications:

  • Conferencing Attendant

  • Conferencing Announcement Service

  • Outside Voice Control

  • Response Group Service
