Ranking and sorting of search results are determined by the relevance score, which is quantified in a rank score for each searchable item. By using FAST Search Server 2010 for SharePoint you can tune relevance in several ways. Predefined relevance (delivered out of the box) was tested and tuned against large sets of different data.
