Installing Service Manager on Four Computers

Applies To: System Center Service Manager 2010 SP1

If you are ready to move System Center Service Manager 2010 Service Pack 1 (SP1) into a production environment, or if you want to maximize performance and scalability, you can consider an installation topology in which each part of Service Manager 2010 SP1 resides on its own computer. This topology requires the use of four computers, as shown in figure 3.

Figure 3: Four-computer topology

Installing Service Manager on Four Computers

In this deployment scenario, you install Microsoft SQL Server only on the computer that hosts the databases (computers 2 and 4). You install SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) on the computer that hosts the data warehouse databases (computer 4).

Use the following procedures to install Service Manager 2010 SP1 on four computers.

Task Description

Step 1: How to Install the Service Manager Management Server (Four-Computer Scenario)

Describes how to install the management server and database.

Step 2: How to Install the Service Manager Data Warehouse (Four-Computer Scenario)

Describes how to install the data warehouse management server and database.

Step 3: How to Validate the Four-Computer Installation

Describes how to validate the installation of Service Manager and the configuration of SSRS.

Note

Additionally, because SSRS is hosted on a computer that differs from the computer that hosts the data warehouse management server, you must copy a DLL file to the computer that hosts SSRS and then add the DLL file to the global assembly cache. For information about how to do this, see Manual Steps to Configure the Remote SQL Server Reporting Services.

Important

For this release, Service Manager 2010 SP1 does not support case-sensitive instance names. Setup fails if you attempt to install Service Manager on a case-sensitive instance of SQL Server.
