Virtual Machine Host Software Requirements

The following software must be installed prior to adding a virtual machine host to Virtual Machine Manager (VMM):

An operating system supported by VMM.
For more information about operating systems supported by VMM, see Supported Operating Systems for Virtual Machine Manager.
One of the following versions of Microsoft Virtual Server 2005:
- Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 R2 or above.
- Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 R2 x64 SP1 or above.
Windows Remote Management (WinRM).

Note

If you have previously enabled WinRM by using the Management and Monitoring Tools components group in Add/Remove Windows Components, that version will not work with Virtual Machine Manager. You must install the version of this software from the following site, which will overwrite your exiting version https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=84599.
