Managing Packages

Packages are used to configure settings of Forefront Protection 2010 for Exchange Server and Forefront Protection 2010 for SharePoint throughout your enterprise using policy pakages.

Policy packages are XML files that are exported from an FPE or FPSP server using the Forefront Management Shell. To deploy a centralized set of configuration settings to one or more FPE or FPSP servers in your environment, first configure a server using the local Forefront Protection 2010 for Exchange Server Administrator Console. Once the server has been configured to the appropriate specifications, export the configuration settings using the steps outlined in the articles Exporting and importing configuration settings (FPE) (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=202819) and Exporting and importing configuration settings (FPSP) (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=202820). Then create the policy package using the steps described in Creating a Package.

Note

Extended options for FPE and FPSP cannot be deployed from the FPSMC.

When you create a package, you indicate the location of a configuration file. The package is then uploaded so that it is available to the deployment job. To deploy a package to your managed servers you must create the package, create a Deployment job and associate the package with the job, and then run the Deployment job. For more information about deploying packages, see Deployment Jobs.
