New product features

  • Assigned access
Assigned access restricts a user account to access a single application. You can use assigned access to set up single-function devices, such as restaurant menus or displays at trade shows.
  • Capture lockdown and branding features
The Lockdown Baseline Tool (LBT) (LabBaselineGenerator.exe) captures lockdown and branding features from a reference device and puts them into a cabinet file that you can then import into System Center Configuration Manager. From Configuration Manager, you can use compliance settings to deploy the settings to multiple devices.
  • Migrate from Windows Embedded 8 Industry
This topic describes many changes to language support, security, networking, management and more to help you determine changes that you may need to make to your image if you migrate from an earlier version of Windows Embedded 8 Industry (Industry 8) to Industry 8.1.
  • USB Filter
USB Filter allows only trusted USB devices to connect to a system. USB Filter intercepts device connect requests and only allows USB devices with matching device product ID, device vendor ID, or device class ID set by administrator to be active and detectable.
  • Windows System Image Manager (SIM)
Windows SIM is a tool included with the Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit (ADK) that you can use to create unattended Windows Setup answer files.
