Languages (Standard 8 Module Reference)

7/8/2014

Review the module groups and modules included in the Languages group of the Windows Embedded 8 Standard (Standard 8) module catalog.

Windows Embedded 8 Standard (Standard 8) provides the following types of language-related modules that you can use to build devices that have fundamental language support and localization support for certain languages:

  • Language enabling modules provide fundamental operating system support or services for enabling certain languages. Supported by Embedded Core, these modules provide general globalization services, related setting tools, corresponding fonts, input method editors, and natural language support. You can select one of these modules to build a customized image with one or more languages.
  • Language packs provide localized user interface and corresponding local customer preferred settings that you can add to your customized image. Language packs are available for all supported languages. By default, the catalog includes English, German, French, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Korean.
You can use Catman.exe to import other supported language packs to the catalog to meet your needs. For information about the languages that you can import, see Additional Languages. For information about how to import a language using Catalog Manager (Catman.exe), see Import a Module into a Catalog using Catalog Manager.
