Network File System (NFS) clients use RPC Port Mapper (also known as Portmap and Rpcbind) to discover NFS protocols on remote servers. Without RPC Port Mapper, Server for NFS cannot start and NFS clients cannot access files on this server. Windows may be low on system resources. Try increasing available system resources by closing programs, then start Server for NFS manually (which will also start RPC Port Mapper). |
Resolve
Free system resources and restart Portmap
To increase available system resources and restart the RPC Port Mapper service:
- Close all programs and stop unnecessary services.
- Open an elevated Command Prompt window. Click Start, point to All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.
- Type net start portmap.
Verify
To verify the startup status of the RPC Port Mapper service:
- Open an elevated Command Prompt window. Click Start, point to All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.
- Type devmgmt.msc.
- On the View menu, click Show hidden devices.
- Expand the Non-Plug and Play Drivers node.
- Right-click Server for NFS Open RPC (ONRPC) Portmapper and click Properties.
- On the Drivers tab, the Status indicates the current state of the service.
