Select new backup tape changer

To complete this procedure, you must be logged on as a member of the Domain Admins security group.

  1. Open Server Management. To open Server Management, click Start, and then click Server Management.
  2. In the console tree, click Backup.
  3. In the details pane, click Select a New Backup Tape Changer. The Backup Configuration Wizard appears.
  4. On the Welcome Page, click Next.
  5. On the Onsite Tape Changerpage, make changes to the following settings as necessary, and then click Next.
    • Select a user from the Tape changer list. This person will be responsible for changing the backup tapes.
    • If necessary, change the time in the Send reminder at list.
    • Select whether or not to send reminders for cleaning the tape drive each month.
  6. On the Finish page, review the setting changes, and then click Finish.

Note

This option is not available if Exchange Server is not installed.

Note

The backup tape changer is only responsible for removing the tape from the last backup and inserting the tape for the currently scheduled backup. This person can be tasked with rotating tapes off-site according to the tape rotation schedule. This user is not granted any rights on the server.

Note

The previous tape changer receives an e-mail message informing him or her of the change in duties.
