Windows Server 2008 End of Support: Know your Options
The time has come - we are officially at the End of Support for Windows Server 2008. What does this mean? In simple terms - if you are running any Windows Server 2008 / 2008 R2 servers in your environment - they will no longer be receiving regular updates from Microsoft AND you will not be able to contact technical support to open tickets or have even basic questions answered about the operating system.
This is a big deal.
It shouldn't be a surprise to anyone - but for a lot of folks with lots going on - they can forget our broad support policy (Microsoft LifeCycle Fixed Policy - Operating Systems) which gives you 10 years of support that eventually comes to an end.
So what are your options? I managed to grab Ned Pyle - Principal Program Manager on the Windows Server Team to talk to me about Windows Server 2008 End of Support and what it actually means to our customers.
So what's next? As Ned mentions in the video - there are two great resources for more information:
- Check out the Windows Server 2008 End Of Support FAQ document
- Have a look at Resources to Migrate OFF of Windows 2008
What about YOU? Did we miss something or are you still looking for answers? Post a comment below and we'll do our best to hook you up with the right resources and answers!
