Exercise - Create and assemble a new assembly item
This exercise is written to use the Cronus sample company from the US version of Business Central. You might need to make adjustments to the steps if you use the sample company from your country or region.
Scenario - Create a new assembly item
Cronus decided to start selling a new office furniture package. As the inventory manager, you're asked to create a new assembly item, TOKYO Office Bundle, that has the following components:
1896-S: 2 PCS
1908-S: 8 PCS
1920-S: 4 PCS
1960-S: 16 PCS
1996-S: 2 PCS
To have enough inventory of every component to assemble 10 units of the new assembly item, you decide to place a purchase order for vendor 40000 - Wide World Importers. On the purchase lines, you use the Explode BOM function to insert all components.
You receive the purchase order.

Create the assembly item
Select the search for page icon in the top-right corner of the page, enter items, and then choose the related link.
Select New.
Select the Office furniture item template code, and then select OK.
In the Description field, enter "TOKYO Office Bundle".
Expand the Replenishment FastTab.
In the Replenishment System field, select Assembly.
Select No in the Assembly BOM field to open the bill of material for the item.
On the Assembly BOM page, select New to enter the first component.
In the Type field, select Item.
In the No. field, enter 1896-S.
In the Quantity Per field, enter 2.
Go to the next line.
Repeat steps 8 through 12 for the other items in the scenario above by using the quantities in the scenario.
Close the assembly BOM and the item card.
Order and receive the components
Select the search for page icon in the top-right corner of the page, enter purchase orders, and choose the related link.
Select New.
In the Vendor Name field, enter 40000.
On the Lines FastTab, in the Type field, select Item.
In the No. field, enter "Tokyo Office Bundle" and select the item.
In the Quantity field, enter 10.
Select More Options, Functions, and then Explode BOM.
Select OK to retrieve the dimensions from components.
Select Posting, and then Post.
Select Receive.
Select OK.
Scenario - Assemble the new assembly item
Now that you have all the components in stock, you decide to assemble 10 units of the assembled item, so that you can quickly respond to the first customer demands. On the day you created the order, you were able to finish 8 units of the assembly item. But first you need to set up the number series for assembly orders.

Set up the number series for assembly orders.
Create an assembly order for 10 units of item "TOKYO Office Bundle".
Post the assembly order for 8 units.
Steps
Set up the number series for assembly orders
Select the search for page icon in the top-right corner of the page, enter assembly setup, and select the related link.
Expand the Numbering FastTab.
Select the Assembly Order Nos. field, and then select New.
In the Code field, enter ASSEMB-ORD.
In the Description field, enter "Assembly Orders".
Select the Starting No. field.
In the Starting Date field, enter 01/01/19.
In the Starting No. field, enter AS-19-0001.
Select Close.
Select the Default Nos. field, and then select OK.
Select the Posted Assembly Order Nos. field, and then select New.
In the Code field, enter ASSEMB-ORD+.
In the Description field, enter "Posted Assembly Orders".
Choose the Starting No. field.
In the Starting Date field, enter 01/01/19.
In the Starting No. field, enter PAS-19-0001.
Choose Close.
Select the Default Nos. field, and then select OK.
Close the Assembly Setup page.
Create an assembly order for 10 units of item "TOKYO Office Bundle"
Choose the search for page icon in the top-right corner of the page, enter assembly orders, and select the related link.
Choose New.
In the Item No. field, enter "TOKYO Office Bundle".
In the Quantity field, enter 10.
Select Release, and then select Release.
Post the assembly order for 8 units
On the assembly order header, in the Quantity to Assemble field, enter 8.
Select Posting, and then select Post.
Select Yes.
