Make locations mandatory
If you have set up one or multiple locations in your Business Central company, it's important that you make locations mandatory. If locations are mandatory, a location code is required when users post any item transactions from sales, purchase, and journal lines.
To make locations mandatory, follow these steps:
Select the Search for Page icon in the upper-right corner of the page, enter inventory setup, and then select the related link.
Expand the Location FastTab.
Select the Location Mandatory check box.
If locations aren't mandatory, a location code isn't required when you post item transactions, which means that you can post items to a blank location and that Business Central will manage inventory for a blank location. This approach could result in unexpected behavior, such as when you calculate a plan in Business Central.
Before you can make locations mandatory for a company, ensure that no inventory is on a blank location code. Check the Items by Location page, which you can access from the item list, to make sure that no unassigned inventory locations exist for items.
If quantities are on the unspecified location, then inventory is on the blank location. With the item journal, you can post these quantities to the location in which the items are located. When quantities are no longer on the unspecified location, you can make the location mandatory in the inventory setup.
