Visualize device readings

Completed

To ensure that you are servicing items as necessary, you need to have a complete understanding of a device, including its current performance and the type of repairs that have been done on the device in the past. To help understand the current state of a device, its repair history, and the effect of performed work orders, Connected Field Service can display near real-time device readings and historical sensor measurements in a chart alongside work order details.

After the device has been enabled and configured, this information is displayed on the device readings chart, which is available on the IoT alert, work order, case, device, and asset forms.

To enable the device readings chart, administrators need to deploy Time Series Insights into the Azure subscription when deploying or upgrading Connected Field Service with Azure IoT Hub for their organization. Azure Time Series Insights is a turnkey solution that helps organizations collect IoT data, store it for long-term availability, build models to capture the context of the data, and analyze the data to spot trends.

For more information, see Enable the device readings chart.

Use the device readings chart

The device readings chart includes data that comes from multiple types of records, provided that the record is associated with an IoT device. For example, if you are working on a case that is related to an IoT device, you can use the Device Readings tab on the case record to view device readings. If you are on a work order with a connected device, the work order will include the Device Readings tab.

To view device readings for specific types of records, the following data must be in place.

Form Required data
Device Device ID is not empty.
Work order The work order has a related IoT alert, and the IoT alert has a related IoT device. The device ID in the IoT device is not empty.
Case The case has a related IoT alert, and the IoT alert has a related IoT device. The Device ID in the IoT device is not empty.
Asset The device ID is not empty. The device readings chart is for the device ID that is set in the Connected Device Attributes section of the Asset form.
IoT alert The alert has a related IoT device. The device ID in the IoT device is not empty.

Open the Device Readings tab on the IoT alert, work order, case, device, or Asset form. You can change the time period that you want to work with. As you use your mouse to hover over the chart, tooltips will display that provide measurement details. Cases and work orders that are related to the IoT alert are displayed as pins on the device reading chart. You can see service history for an asset.
