Explore the learner's view in Search Progress
When students open an assignment with Search Progress attached, it appears under the My work section by the assignment description. Selecting Search Progress, reveals the research parameters the teacher sets—how many sources to find, what steps they need to complete.
From there, learners use Search Coach to search, but with your configured checkpoints built right into the flow. Each time students save a source, they're prompted to complete whatever scaffolds you enabled—explaining their choice, checking reputation, reflecting on factual importance, or cross-checking claims. These steps aren't busywork; they're "thinking checkpoints" that help students slow down and engage more deeply.
At the end, they complete the reflection prompt (if enabled) and submit their work. The result: you receive not just a list of sources, but a window into how they reasoned their way to those choices.
Tip
To explore the student view of a Search Progress assignment, select Student view from the Settings page when you're configuring a Search Progress assignment.
Exporting sources for final products
Students can export their Search Progress sources to use in their final work. Depending on which settings you enabled, they can copy either:
- Formatted citations (APA7 style)-ready to paste into a works cited page
- Sources with explanations-an annotated bibliography they can reference while writing
This bridges the gap between research and writing, helping students carry their thinking into the final essay, presentation, or project.
