Exercise - Post a write-down to a fixed asset

This exercise is written to use the Cronus sample company from the US version of Business Central. You might need to make adjustments to the steps if you use the sample company from your country or region.

Scenario

A monitor was damaged during transport. Though the monitor appears to be working adequately, the accountant at CRONUS wants to post a write-down entry of LCY 800 to the asset, with a posting date of May 1, 2020.

You have been asked to post the write-down from the fixed asset G/L journal. Your first task is to configure the write-down G/L accounts for the IT-equipment posting group.

Tasks

  • Configure the write-down G/L accounts for the IT-equipment posting group.

  • Post the write-down from the fixed asset G/L journal.

Steps

  1. Select the Search for page icon in the upper-right corner of the page, enter FA posting groups, and then select the related link.

  2. Select the line for the IT-equipment posting groups.

  3. Select Edit.

  4. In the Write-Down Account field, enter 10800.

  5. Expand the Balancing Account FastTab.

  6. In the Write-Down Expense Acc. field, enter 61600.

  7. Return to your role center page.

  8. Select the Search for page icon in the upper-right corner of the page, enter fixed asset G/L journals, and then select the related link.

  9. Enter a journal line with the following information:

    1. Posting Date: 05/01/2020

    2. Account Type: Fixed Asset

    3. Account No.: Select the fixed asset for the monitor

    4. FA Posting Type: Write-Down

    5. Amount: -800

  10. Select Process > Insert FA Bal. Account.

  11. Select Process > Post.

  12. Select Yes.
