In this learning path, you’ll learn how to implement remote administration and management in Azure. After completing this path, you’ll be able to monitor your Azure resources, and plan for scale and high-availability.

Prerequisites

  • Experience with managing Windows Server operating system and Windows Server workloads in on-premises scenarios, including AD DS, DNS, DFS, Hyper-V, and File and Storage Services.
  • Experience with common Windows Server management tools (implied by the first prerequisite).
  • Basic knowledge of core Microsoft compute, storage, networking, and virtualization technologies (implied by the first prerequisite).
  • Basic knowledge of on-premises resiliency Windows Server-based compute and storage technologies (Failover Clustering, Storage Spaces).
  • Basic experience with implementing and managing IaaS services in Microsoft Azure.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Entra ID.
  • Basic understanding security-related technologies (firewalls, encryption, multi-factor authentication, SIEM/SOAR).
  • Basic knowledge of PowerShell scripting.
  • An understanding of the following concepts as related to Windows Server technologies:
    • High Availability and Disaster Recovery
    • Automation
    • Monitoring

Modules in this learning path

You’ll be able to use suitable tools and techniques to manage Windows IaaS VMs remotely. You'll also be able to restrict administrative connections to those VMs.

You'll be able to implement Azure Monitor for IaaS VMs in Azure, implement Azure Monitor in on-premises environments, and use dependency maps.

You'll be able to use the Pricing calculator to assess likely costs, use Azure Advisor to monitor actual costs for Azure resources, implement Spot VMs and Azure Reservations, and describe benefits of Azure Hybrid licensing.

You'll learn how to implement scaling for virtual machine scale sets and load-balanced VMs. You'll also learn how to implement Azure Site Recovery.

You'll learn about Azure Backup before learning to implement Recovery Vaults and Azure Backup Policies. You’ll learn to implement Windows IaaS VM recovery, perform backup and restore of on-premises workloads, and manage Azure VM backups.
