Windows 11 Processor requirements

I ran the PC Health Check and it came back that my processor doesn't meet the requirements. I have the following processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-7500 CPU @ 3.40GHz 3.40 GHz. According to Microsoft's Processor Requirements list for Intel, this processor meets the requirements.

I sent a message to Microsoft a couple of weeks ago and have never heard anything back from them. Is there anyone in the community that can tell me why this processor isn't matching Windows 11 requirements even though it's on their list of approved processors?

Thank you in advance,

Jeff McGarrity

You are looking list approved CPU's for Windows 10, as others has mentioned you have to look list for Windows 11 approved CPU's. See link from Kapil's reply.

Well I guess Microsoft's list of approved processors doesn't mean anything. I've doubled even triple checked and this is what I found.

Windows 10 21H2 Supported AMD Processors Supported Intel Processors Supported Qualcomm Processors
    Intel® Core™ i5-7440HQ
    Intel® Core™ i5-7442EQ
    Intel® Core™ i5-7500
    Intel® Core™ i5-7500T
    Intel® Core™ i5-7600
    Intel® Core™ i5-7600K
    Intel® Core™ i5-7600T
    Intel® Core™ i5-7640X

So if I'm reading this correctly off of Microsoft's site and their list of approved processors, my i5-7500 processor meets their requirements. This is ending up being a push to people to buy new pc's or laptops when we're told it doesn't match when it does. New sales gimmick for sure. Guess who's not upgrading to Windows 11.

Just might be time to look at other options in the future for a different OS.

    Hello,

Unfortunately, i5-7500 processor is not compatible for Windows 11, according to Microsoft.

Please check with official Windows 11 list of supported processors:

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/design/minimum/supported/windows-11-supported-intel-processors

You can drop a feedback to Microsoft about this, using Feedback hub app.

    Regards.

The processor requirement is the most restrictive; supported processors include 8th-generation and newer Intel Core processors as well as AMD Ryzen 2000-series processors and newer. These are all chips that launched in late 2017 and early 2018. Older computers can't officially run Windows 11.
