Based on that video, seems it's not hardware specific, but I/O or codec stalls, try these in order:
- 🧹 Delete Both Caches Completely
We did LocalCache, but go deeper:
Win + R →
%localappdata%\Packages\Microsoft.HoganThreshold_8wekyb3d8bbwe
- Delete all of these folders if they exist:
-
LocalCache -
TempState -
Settings
-
- Reboot and relaunch the game (it will rebuild them fresh).
This fixes “freeze-on-advance” for a lot of players.
- Re-install HEVC and VP9 codecs
Some missions use VP9 instead of HEVC.
- Microsoft Store → Search and install:
- HEVC Video Extensions
- VP9 Video Extensions (also free)
- Reboot.
- Move the Game to an Internal SSD (if it’s on HDD or external)
The freeze timing in your video matches asset streaming stalls.
Go to Settings → Apps → Halo Wars 2 → Move → choose your internal SSD.
If already on SSD, check that at least 20 GB of free space remains.
