Today 20 March 20202, I updated my Windows and microphone flat-out stopped working. Apparently the driver of the microphone device updated (version dated 18 March). This what I see

I am normally a Mac user (currently at repair, bloated battery) so I am quite lost even with the terms of troubleshoot articles. Does this mean there's something wrong with the driver or something wrong with my machine?

Hi JPS23

Yes, most likely Windows Update has installed an incompatible Audio device driver on your PC, there would be nothing wrong with your hardware . . .

The best option is to go to the support page for your PC on the manufacturers website, then from there, download and install the version of Realtek Audio driver they recommend . ..

If you have any difficulty locating that support page, what is the Make and exact Model No. of your PC - that will be printed on a sticker on the bottom casing . ..
