Thanks for bringing this up. To notify Microsoft about this bug in automatic language updates, the official way is through Feedback Hub on Windows:
Press Windows key + F to open Feedback Hub.
Sign in with your Microsoft account.
Select Report a problem.
Under Category, choose Windows Setup and Update > Updates.
Give it a clear title, for example: “Windows update auto-switches keyboard layout from English US to English UK”.
Describe exactly what happens, when it started, and which update caused it if you know.
Submit the report.
This sends it straight to Microsoft’s product team, and others can upvote it to give it more visibility.
You can also check if others have reported the same by searching “keyboard layout switched to UK” in Feedback Hub and upvoting those.
You can also try these steps that may help fix the issue.
Step 1. Check your current language settings
Press Windows + I to open Settings.
Go to Time & language > Language & region.
Under Preferred languages, click your language (for example English).
Select Language options.
Step 2. Remove the unwanted layout
Under Keyboards, if you see English (United Kingdom), click it.
Select Remove.
Step 3. Set the correct default input
Still under Language & region, make sure English (United States) (or whichever you want) is at the top of the list.
If not, move it up or add it.
Step 4. To prevent Windows from auto-adding layouts:
Open Control Panel > Clock and Region > Language.
On the left, click Advanced settings.
Under Switching input methods, check Let me set a different input method for each app window and save.
Restart the PC
This ensures the unwanted keyboard layout doesn’t reappear.
Step 5. If after updates Windows keeps reinstalling UK layout, you can disable language sync:
Go to Settings > Accounts > Windows backup > Remember my preferences, and turn off Language preferences.
Step 6. As a last resort if the keyboard layout keeps reverting after every update, you may have a corrupted system component and you can perform an in-place upgrade.
In-place upgrade is a process wherein it will upgrade the device to the latest version and repair many issues without deleting any files. Usually, it is used to repair corrupted system files, apps, and even incompatible drivers on the system.
Here's how.
Go to the official Microsoft page:
https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows11
Under "Download Windows 11 Disk Image (ISO)," select Windows 11 (multi-edition ISO) and click Download.
After downloading, right-click the ISO file and click Mount.
Open the new virtual drive that appears and run setup.exe.
On the installer screen
Choose “Keep personal files and apps” when prompted.
Follow the on-screen steps to complete the installation.
This process can take up to 1 hour and may include multiple restarts. After it completes, Windows will be refreshed while keeping all your data intact.
All the best!
