If Word and Excel in Office 2019 don’t work because the license isn’t activated, open either program, go to File > Account, and sign in with the Microsoft account you used to buy Office, then click Activate Product this ensures the software recognizes your license. If it still won’t activate or update, the best fix is to completely uninstall Office using Microsoft’s uninstall tool and then reinstall it from your account at account.microsoft.com/services; reinstalling resets the activation and usually restores updates.

When you open Word or Excel, do you get any specific error message, or do they just close immediately?

Did you originally buy a digital copy linked to your Microsoft account, or was it a product key from a card/box?
