Subject: Issue with Ink Annotation Delay in Exported PowerPoint Video Recordings from Office 365

Dear Microsoft Support Team,

I hope this email finds you well. I am experiencing a persistent issue with PowerPoint in Office 365 when exporting recorded presentations as videos. Specifically, during the export process, the ink annotations (drawn with the pen tool during recording) appear with a 1-2 second delay compared to the audio narration in the final video. This synchronization problem makes the exported video unusable for my lecture purposes, as the annotations do not align with the spoken content.

Here are the details of my setup and the problem:

  • I am using PowerPoint from Office 365 (latest version, fully updated as of [insert your current date, e.g., August 6, 2025]).
  • The recordings are made using the built-in Record feature, where I narrate slides and add ink annotations (e.g., drawings or text) on the screen.
  • When playing back the exported MP4 video, the audio plays normally, but the annotations lag behind by 1-2 seconds, disrupting the flow.
  • This issue occurs consistently across multiple presentations and exports, even on different devices (I've tested on Windows 10/11 PCs with sufficient hardware specs).

    Hi Kwangil,

Thanks for the detailed breakdown and it really helps.

Right now, there's no official fix but I have workarounds that can help is try to record your presentation in smaller sections by exporting shorter segments sometimes avoids the lag. Use screen recording tools like Clipchamp or OBS while playing back your live presentation instead of exporting through PowerPoint. This captures exactly what you see and hear in real time. If you need to stick with PowerPoint's export, try turning off hardware acceleration under File > Options > Advanced and see if that improves sync.

I hope this will help and if you have any question just feel free to ask to this post.

    Warm regards,

    Cherrelyn
