It looks like this issue may be tied to a recent firmware update that removed the Battery Limit toggle from UEFI. Even though the toggle is gone, the system may still be enforcing a charge cap due to firmware behavior. We’ve seen similar reports from other users, and we know how confusing this can be.

Here’s what you can try next:

    1. Surface App Battery Controls Make sure the Surface app is fully updated via the Microsoft Store. The latest version should include new battery settings like:
      • Adaptive Charging
        • Limit to 80%
          • Temporary 100% Charge

If these options aren’t showing, it might mean the firmware update didn’t fully apply. A full restart (holding the power button for 20 seconds) can sometimes help reset things.

    1. Battery Icon Clues Hover over the battery icon in the taskbar. If you see a heart or exclamation mark, it could be a sign that a firmware-enforced limit is active.
    2. Reach Out to Support Since you’ve already tried all the standard steps, we recommend submitting a support request at Microsoft Support. Choose:
      • Surface > Battery or Charging Issues
        • Include your Surface model, firmware version, and any feedback you’ve submitted through the Feedback Hub.
        1. Service Options If your device is still under warranty, you may be eligible for service or repair. You can start a service order or visit a Microsoft service center if one is nearby.

We’re here to help however we can. If you’d like assistance checking your firmware version or preparing a support request, just let us know we’ll walk you through it step-by-step.

    Hi There,

Thanks for the heads-up that sounds super frustrating. You’ve already done a great job narrowing it down, especially noticing that the Battery Limit option is gone from UEFI but the system still won’t charge past 50%. That’s definitely not how it should behave, especially after selecting the 80% profile in Windows.

    Here’s What You Can Try:

Check Smart Charging Settings Open the Surface app and look under Battery Settings. If Smart Charging is active, try pausing or disabling it that might be what’s capping the charge.

Run a Battery Report Open Command Prompt and type:

This will generate a report that shows how your battery is behaving and whether it’s misreporting its capacity.

Submit Feedback to Microsoft Since this might be tied to a firmware update, it’s worth reporting through the Feedback Hub app. That way, the Surface team can investigate and possibly push a fix.

Check for Additional Updates Sometimes a follow-up update is released to fix quirks like this. Head to Windows Update and check under Optional Updates just in case.

Explore Service Options If nothing works, you can check out Microsoft’s battery troubleshooting page for repair or service options.

Let me know if you want help running the battery report or submitting feedback I’m here to help however I can!
