Microsoft Sustainability Manager overview

Microsoft Cloud for Sustainability Technical Summit May 2024

Microsoft Sustainability Manager is an extensible solution that unifies data intelligence and provides comprehensive, integrated, and automated sustainability management for organizations at any stage of their sustainability journey. It automates manual processes, enabling organizations to more efficiently record, report, and reduce your organization's emissions and water or waste impact.

You can integrate the solution with any business system. It breaks down data silos by automating data connections and calculations and applying a Microsoft Cloud for Sustainability data model to remove data ambiguity. You can extend core capabilities of Sustainability Manager quickly and easily using familiar Azure and Power Platform tools to create custom solutions, such as new formulas or reports.

Sustainability Manager helps you to:

  • Gain continuous visibility into your organization's emissions activities and water data.

  • Reliably report impact and progress in near real time.

  • Access the intelligence required to collaborate with others to refine and scale sustainability initiatives and transform business end to end.

Water sustainability features help you to record, estimate, analyze, and report on water quantity and quality data to meet use cases such as water sustainability disclosures and regulatory water quality reporting. Water quantity data includes water volume measurements such as water withdrawal and discharges that are linked to water sources. This data helps you to analyze and report the balance between water withdrawn, consumed, and discharged in your facilities from various water sources at the organization and facility levels. Water quality data includes facility-level measurements related to the chemical, physical, and biological properties of water that are linked to reference data, such as sampling procedures and testing methods. This data helps you address use cases such as effluent quantities and their reference ranges in wastewater for regulatory water quality reporting.

Sustainable waste management features help you to unify, prepare, analyze, and report on waste quantity and quality characteristics. You can use these features for use cases such as filing sustainability disclosures and meeting compliance requirements on hazardous and radioactive waste sent to landfills. Waste quantity data includes measured waste data such as weight or volume of waste disposed, recovered, or recycled, and total waste generated by waste stream and material. This data helps you to understand, analyze, and report on the total waste generated and amount of waste disposed to landfills at a facility and organization level. Waste quality or characteristics data help to track and monitor hazardous and radioactive properties in the disposed waste. It can also help ensure that the measured values are within permissible limits as defined by regulatory standards.
