Proofing button (ABC) in OneNote desktop for Windows?

When using OneNote365 as web application, or as class notebook in Teams, there is a proofing option/button (ABC + green check-mark) which I don't find in the Windows desktop app. This makes it possible, very quickly, to change the proofing language for a specific selection or page you are working on (see screenshots). Why isn't this possible in the desktop app? The only option here, is to go to 'Review' - > Proofing - > and then find the language from a looong drop-down list. In addition, the language keeps switching back to the default Windows language!

Since you asked in English, I’ll respond in English as well. However, I’ll keep the article link in its original language for clarity.

Since the original link is in English and I don’t have access to a Bokmål version of the page or images, I kindly recommend using a translation tool to view the content in your preferred.

    Hello @Helge Johan Stautland

Thank you for reaching out to the Q&A forum!

After reviewing your screenshots and testing in my own environment, I can confirm that the OneNote desktop app currently does not have the ABC + green checkmark button. The only way to change the proofing language in the desktop version is through the Review tab.

When I researched further, I found that this button is part of the Set Proofing Language feature. However, each version of OneNote handles this feature differently.

For example, this article also mentions the differences in proofing language settings across Office apps: How to change proofing language settings in Office | Windows Central

(Although this article refers to OneNote for Windows 10, the information is still valid for the current OneNote desktop version)

However, I completely agree with you that the way this works in OneNote for the web is much more convenient compared to the desktop version. It would be great if the development team could consider bringing this functionality to the desktop app as well.

If this feature is important for your workflow, I highly recommend that you submit feedback through the Microsoft 365 Feedback Hub to help prioritize this enhancement.

    • Go to Help => Feedback => Send Feedback
    • Describe your suggestions in detail.
